I have figured out one thing Anger issues and Sketch up do not mix at all 
I did do a design on a 3d virtual world game we play call second life that did turn out really well it has some pretty good building features on it. It does not have alot of the bulk head ball valve and pump features though.

Uncle, i love your pictures, and your tank setup here at the end.
just a suggestion, if you dont like your return pump being behind the top off container, you should shorten the PVC nipple between the bulkhead and the Ball valve. then the 45 that tilts the plumbing to the back of the tank, just twist it it to the right, and the other 45 that takes it vertical, just twist it to match. that will tilt the plumbing back, and jog it to the right so it will line up with the plumbing on the top side.
but if it doesnt bother you, or enterfear, then cool.
also, are you going to run a Kalk or CA reactor with your tank? (i havent read to see what kind of tank your planning on running. LPS, Softy, SPS.
or are you going to run a doser and 3 part?
that would be sweet to see for a drawing as well....

The distance is a necessity to prevent the pump from cavitating due to the elbow inside the sump, and it also moves the motor out of the "wet area" of the stand. It is quite intentional. The only "electricals" in the "wet" area are the skimmer pump, the float switches (12VDC) and a light for the "fuge"

but i have a dart for a return pump, it has a 90 inside the sump. and has a union off the bulkhead, and a 90 after that going to the pump. the pump is 4in from the sump. i have no valve or chatter. but i do have the new balder dart so....
but, your right about keeping it out of the wet/splash/water zone! if i had room, and had to do it over, that would be something to do. very good thinking

YouTube should have a lot of really good videos if you are a complete novice at SketchUp. Or are you asking for someone to physically draw it for you?

I found a great guide on advanced aquarist which helped. It did not come out as nice as I wanted too but I sent it to the builder and hopefully its okay.
I couldn't figure out how to make a eurobrace on the top with rounded corners, as well as holes in baffles. And I had no idea how to make bulkheads / insert models from the internet.

ArmanS, it certainly takes practice but its a great tool. I was actually taught drafting in college on Microstation which is a competitor of AutoCAD. All very similar to Sketchup. But a license for AutoCAD or Microstation can be in the thousands of dollars and Sketchup is free! Keep playing with it and you will get there.

Here's mine that I started playing with. First time using Sketchup. I had to do some google and youtube searches for parts of it to figure out how to do stuff and still have a TON to learn. The sump isn't the final design by any means....I was more or less trying to kill time while more money finds it's way into my wallet so I can complete my 300g 8ft build! LOL
The tank is 96x24x30 on a custom metal stand. I still need to draw in my closed loop plumbing. Now I guess I just gotta finish building the REAL one that's sitting in my garage! LOL

Play with the tools. There is an arc tool (half circle on the tool bar) that will make a perfect quater radius, and with four of them, connect the ends of the arcs with straight lines, and use the push/pull tool to push the area inside the lines down till it goes away. It will let you know when that is accomplished.
