uncleof6,

"So what is it exactly you are trying to do?"

All I was doing was trying to align skimmer cup to body when the parts were from different models.

There is no way ( as far as I can tell ) to assign a new coordinate system ( snap to center ) to a part that is circular.

I can only seem to move objects from one vertex to another vertex.

Even using the measurement tools, it is hard to find the center of an existing circle or arc.

Stu

Yeah that is a big headache, I have been fighting with that for a long time. Is the same as trying to align plumbing parts. What you can do (since a circle is really a series of straight lines) is use guide lines across the "circle" to establish a center. Like this: (maybe you already tried it)

Progress on k9asias room, which hypershot will no longer render, it continues to render less complex models.

Looks great, sorry to here it crashed your system. so why will it no longer render the system? Is there a way to see a 3d version when you are done?

I don't know the reason it is crashing, but I BSOD when I take it into hypershot. I have tried to get it into Maya, but Maya does not like the exported .obj file. It is an inigma, as all my other .skps will render in hypershot without issue. It could be there is a problem with this model, but I would hate to start it over.

Ok, after reading a good part of this thread (add being blown away by the TALENT), is anyone willing to make me a drawing for a steel stand that fits a 120?

Here is what I would like:
48x24x24 tank dimension
a false back wall that is 6" from the rear to hide the plumbing
an open shelf on the bottom
a glass shelf 18" from the bottom (MY sump is in the basement.)
Leveling feet? My floor is NOT level.
Oh, stand height... is 36" OK?

So, I guess the top will be a 48x24, but the 2 shelves 48x18, taking into account the back wall.

Is that clear as mud?

Oh, I am unsure on the tank bottom.... It will be a DIY, I am working on a trade/purchase of some 8mm starfire glass. I know that thickness will require eurobracing on the top, and that is in the plan, it is the BOTTOM that I am unsure of.

Thanks a bunch!

I am remodeling my basement after my 75 Gal sump leak ( new floor ), so I thought I'd throw in a new IN-WALL 75 gal. sump.

"ACTUALLY.... my 12 year old is way into learning sketchup and takes on any project that you can provide accurate dimensions for."

The back corner room is my existing 80 Gal. sump/fish-room.
He did this model with just rough dimensions.

I am going to make him do the pic-list next ;)

"after i convience someone to draw it for me because i suck on the pc."

uncleof6,

"Good luck finding that someone.... "

ACTUALLY.... my 12 year old is way into learning sketchup and takes on any project that you can provide accurate dimensions for.

He recently modeled my entire basement for a remodel & has done a few tanks for members on this forum before.

PM some drawings or rough dimensions and he might take it on......

Will accept acrylic scraps as payment..... we come down to LV often ;-)

BTW - I truly believe that Google left annoying "idiosyncrasies" in the free version just to get us to pay.
Just TRY aligning one circle onto another........ with autocad, you could "snap to center" with a couple of clicks.
With the free version of sketchup, it seems they put every blockade in place to make it difficult.
Thanks for the offer stu....but I'm almost done with the tank already lol......just got to finish building the overflow and glue it on the back anp put the euro brace on and call it a day......:)

Could anyone make this for me or give me a hint how to start to make it in sketch up. Its a lot more complicated then the normal models I make.

Its for a swing set I am going to build and I wanted a 3d model also.
Its 10' in total length, 18" interior width 24" total width. the tower height where the top rest is 5'

shameful bump. I believe I solved the problem with my rendering engine. Am running tests now. Upgraded to a Core2 Quad Q9550 processor, me thinks I fried the Core2 Duo E6850, a bit off topic but not really as I mentioned a rendering issue.

Jim
