Not that you aren't doing a good job there Uncle but was curious as to what happened to the OP, hasn't posted since March

I'm afraid I'm no help to you but I like the ARS name.....it's better than Arkansas Saltwater Shop initials would be :D

the Diamond Reef Aquarium Supply is a good name.....

Wasn't sure. You do a darn good job with the aquarium making programs, I thought I would put it in front of you to see if you coudl do that too. Thanks though.

It mostly just sounded funny...

Anyways, is anyone still doing 3-D renderings of tank designs?

The idea is pretty simple, it's based on a tank setup on Nano-Reef.com found here (evilc66). He is local to me and actually gave me a 30b and a 40b (both had cracked back glass, but I'm in the process of replacing that). At first I didn't want to make a tank similar to his (mostly because I didn't want to seem like I was stealing his ideas) but he honestly has one of the best designs I've seen. The idea is to have the 40breeder on top as the main display tank. Underneath (and plumbed to the main tank) would be a 30breeder to be used as a propagation tank. Underneath it all is going to be a 20gallon long sump.

Please see my new stand idea in the attached sketch up model. It's just the framing wood (2x4's), and the MDF sheets that the tanks will sit on. Please pardon the crappyness of the model, as this I downloaded sketch up 20 minutes ago and it's my first model.

Anyways, nobody has to, but if someone wants to do a better version of my model maybe showing some more details and some glass that would be cool! The sump will be 30x12x12, the 30br is 36x18x12, and the 40br is 36x18x16.

My braces will look like this (top view):

Wow....

Me = thread killa

Don't raise yourself to such a high level of esteem, I have not had a chance to look at it. let alone redo it......;)

Hahaha... that was supposed to be more of a joke than anything.

Anyways, I'm thinking of a few ways to lighten it up a bit by maybe replacing some of the inner wood with 1x4 boards vs the 2x4's. Of course some of that depends on the quality of wood I can find and the price.

Thanks uncle for your efforts!

Anyone still do renderings? I cant figure the sketchup thing out...I guess I am challenged....lol

I am wanting a scetch of a 16x16x16 acrylic cube. It will have a black false wall in it, 5" from the back wall. It will have teeth routed in the right hand corner approx 5" in from right edge.....

Any takers.....lol

Hello uncle,
Any chance you could help me out please. After seeing Sonny's rimless reef I've been looking into building a similar but smaller version, money permitting.
I spent ages trying to sort out a design in sketchup, but it still looks basic.
I intended this sketch to show a twin standpipe design and a sump with three partitions, the centre of the sump housing a skimmer (Vertex Alpha 170) and a Eheim return pump in the right partition.
I have managed to sort out the lighting which is supposed to represent an ATI sun power pendant and also the Vortech MP20, could you please do me a rendering if/when you have the time.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated,

kind regards,

Pete.

Here is the link, thanks,

Hi,
I have a quick Q, What paint do you use in sketchup? When I use the translucent ones it comes out very blue when rendering.
Thanks
Amazing rendering BTW.

I have to disagree. Sketchup is really simple, you just have to realize how "dumb" the software is to use it.

autocad is so annoying. I hate the interface, IMO it is way harder to use than sketchup. I have tried the newest version and it is not as bad as previous, especially when trying to draw 3d.
Blender !
Not what you guys want to use unless you want to go to the next level.
That's like water and glass with a refractive index,
caustics, photon lighting simulations, color bleed and such...

Dangit, I have to do a photo realistic tank/setup now and get an opinion on it.
Well after my school work.
