atathe last meeting i won a nice sized frogspawn and after several days it looks like its dying off a couple of polyps are loosing tentacles and one is dead with some strange thing in the center
the two polyps that looks like it split is loosing tentacles

i'm thinking i got a slug or sometind of a parasite on it

i'll post a pic of it asap

I know the tank that the (2) large froggies came from and I highly doubt they had a hitchhiker bug that would so quickly destroy your frags (5 + heads right?) Like mini-colonies.

Lets see the pics and actual water parameters to start.

Chuck

unfortunatly i could not find my usb camera cable to transfer the pic
the tankis currently a 20 gallon
temp 82
ph 8.2
out of test kits so i cant tell the rest of the specks

i fragged off the bad heads (3)
the remaing 3 heads are doing good despite the cutting of the bad heads

i know keeping it in a 20 gallon with 5 fish is not good
but my 90 gallon should be up sometime in the next 3-4 weeks
the only light is two 18 " t8 no(1actnic 1 50/50)
i know not enough light maybee i"ll get a loa 65w shop/landscape light
stand is 50 percent done
frame is made skinned with ply just waiting for payday to get the sand, trim and other stuff

Did the disruption look like this?

It could be making a new head.
Mine has now organized a mouth out of the bubble, and has cast the tentacles around it.

Hello
It was my frag from my tank and I guarantee there was no parasite, slug or anything else bad on it. There are probably 15-20 tanks now with frags from that same fogspawn or candycane from the same tank and nobody has any problems. I promise you it was 100% healthy with nothing bad on it.
If it is now in a 20 gallon with 5 fish and only 2 18" t8 lights and no idea about water parameters... thats the problem. Its a hardy coral but I'd hurry and get your 90 gallon up quick cause I would not bet on it living long that way.

sk8tr no not like that
vinstr i'm not saying your froggie was bad
but i cut off the bad /dying heads
looks ok for now will see tomorrow

The only time my frogspawn looked bad was when my calcium and alkalinity were WAY low after a 3 week vacation. You need to get a test kit right away and some better lighting or have someone else care for your frag until you get a proper setup.

All of the Euphyllia species are notoriously bad shippers and routinely suffer after being bagged. It is not unusual to lose a few heads, particularly the ones on the outside areas, to tissue abrasion from being bounced around.

greatgman- I understand, no problem.
But the point I was making was that frag came out of a 90g tank with only 6 fish, an ASM G3 skimmer, 570 watts of MH/VHO lighting and rock steady high calcium/alk levels. Going into your temporary setup is not good, especially with low light and if you do not know your calcium levels- remember it is a stony coral and needs high light/calcium levels. Add to the fact that the bio load is almost the same as my 90 gallon and I am sure the water quality cannot be the same. Please try and get the 90 set up asap as I would not bet on it surviving too long in the 20.
Also, are you sure those stalks were dying and not new buds? Even if the water quality was really bad, I could not see it hurting the coral so quickly in just a few days - it would close up for awhile, but not strat shrinking away immediately. The thing grew like mad in my tank and was constantly sprouting new branches, which when new, look like they could be shriveled up old branches, but they are not shrinking, just growing..

vinstr those polyps were almost dead as i saw very clearly the white skeleton and a few drooping tentacles
now another polyp is refuseing to come out i can see the very light green color of the skeleton ,looks like its bleaching out

damn!

there are beautifull corals and i dont want to kill it slowly

getting the 90 up quick is gonna be really hard as i work an average of 60 hrs a week
the other froggie that i got a long time ago lost all but 1 head due to brown jelly and the single head is still alive but not growing

come to think of it i think this all happened after i topped off the tank with water
cant tell if i used the jug with just plain tap or the declorinated tap
both jugs are identical
(i have some diy reef rocks i tried from the diy section - ultimate diy reef rocks- (i change the water out in the holding tank every week with normal tap -non declorinated-) maybee thats whats causing this
the fish are fine as well as the kenyas and xenia elongata -one of the stalks has thined a bit
so tomorrow i will mkake a 50 percent water change

the froggie is not doing too bad
just kinda hanging on for the time being
another polyp is just about dead (only about 2 or 3 small tenacles still hanging on
damn!

maybee getting someone to watch over it while i get my 90 up
doesnt seem too bad to me
