Full Tank Progression Shots

Reefbum,
Amazing progress. Its funny how you started off with two islands and in the end they meet. You definetly have to give your SPS space to grow out.

Reefbum, First-off.... You are my idol! Your tank continues to inspire me. I noticed you removed your giant pink Birdsnest... In the time that you had it, did you ever experience it or any other birdsnest slowly dying from the base? At first, I thought that it may be asternias at work, now I'm starting to think that they are just there cleaning things up... Again, fantastic Job. The tank is absolutely beautiful..

nice work reefbum.

what happened between oct and dec 2007? did you add rock and start buying larger pieces?

seems like after that though you settled down?... and things really took off. amazing.

wow you are doing SOMETHING right!

One thing I've always had trouble with is placing SPS so that they don't fall off or so the rocks don't shift here and there.... they always end up growing weird because their orientation will shift slightly once or twice a year. Yours look very natural... spectacular.

Thanks again folks!

Thanks! Yes.....there was die off at the base of that birdsnest and that was totally expected since flow to the bottom of the colony became restricted over time.

Thanks. I added maybe 1 or 2 smaller pieces of rock during that time and I did add a few mini-colonies plus some frags. And yes things did start to take off after that point.

Many thanks. The key is to get the placement rock solid so everything is stable. I have found that my corals do best when I keep my hands out of the tank and don't fiddle with placement. They like stability.

Amen to that. I have not put my hand in my tank for quite some time, in fact i have not done a water change in 14 months, stability is KEY

I always thought water changes would help keep the tank stable??

I very much agree with trying to keep hands out of the tank.

not necessarily. Everytime you remove water from the tank, you are removing bacteria and in my case, my system is bacteria driven. For me its just easier to let it do its thing. I feed like crazy and that's all.

You dont epoxy them in place or anything? One thing I'd really like to try is making a solid reef formation using something like BRS eco-rock, and glueing/epoxying the whole structure together right from the start. I only worry about not being able to move anything if the need arose...

I have recently begun epoxying the corals in place. Mostly my hands don't do the moving, gravity and tank organisms are more likely to move things than I am. I will admit though that my hands are in the tank a lot - wipe the glass, change filter floss, empty skimmer cup etc.
