Gem tang lesson learned and disease help

Gem tang lesson learned and disease help

Actually very common in fish from Singapore ... But don't know about fish from Mauritius and Madagascar region of the Indian Ocean.

But I've had fish tuberculosis on my middle finger ... I seriously doubt that's it ... Usually looks like an ulcer that keeps growing with lots of puss!

The praziquantel can't hurt if it's trematodes problem solved fast.

Though if you've had your tank in hypo salinity for over 30 days.... I think I've read one of Snorvich or throewer posts on ttm saying that fish in hyposalinity might be prone to secondary bacterial infection in the fish disease forum....!?!
Maybe something to look up or go ask one of them.

My guess is secondary bacteraial infection of some sort - treating with normal praz (no bath) and will post updates
This was x posted on fish disease but didn't get much love

Sounds like a good plan. Hopefully the prazi helps some. Secondary bacterial
Infection does sound very likely though. I think you can combine prazi with antibiotics, depending on the type.

Well he was at 1.009 and now at 1.015 so ideally the bacteria /fungus / whatever can not handle the osmotic difference of its natural sg- day 3 now - wounds are healing - will continue to update - but he is improving with rise in s g and praz- still stressful-

That's wonderful news!

I bought a gem tang from live aquaria a few months ago that did that I thought was hille.....it passed after a few weeks and when I tried to see if they would do something for me since I sent in the pics of it arriving sick I pretty much got told to go f myself.

If something is wrong with the fish when it arrives, especially something that high end, you need to notify the company ASAP. No offense, but without immediate notification I wouldn't of either. Any issues I've had with LA/DD have been noted ASAP and they have gone above and beyond to make it right. I can say the same about Blue Zoo as well.....

Awesome news about the gem healing man. Here's to continued success!

I would treat this fish with combo of kanamycin and furan. And with formalin dips in between.

Next transfer is tomorrow if not much better I will do this- details on dosing?

Yeah I prob should of emailed dd but I assumed they would just say you should always qt our fish etc

Lesson learned I set up a Elos 70 as a permanent qt so nothing will be ever going into that dt with out t t and then a Elos run

I have a yellow tank in QT that has similar looking marks. He has turbillarian flat worms to which I hear tangs are very prone. I have dosed twice with PraziPro while the fish was in hypo. It is slowly clearing but the places on his skin where the worms were attached have a bit of an divot under the place where the worm was. Really easy to see on a yellow. It has been very slow recovery. I first dosed him with PraziPro 17 days ago and again 10 days ago. He still has marks but he looks like he is recovering, no new marks for over a week. I may do another dose this week just to be safe.

I was more referring to boogie. But yeah, they're pretty outright about QTing. They advertise a 2 week quarantine. Not much would really get done in that time frame....

RIP
BIG HIT emotional for us, we think it was a fresh water infection from being er hypo but won't ever know
Take home message D T A even DD

What a bummer. I have had good luck w hypo but have switched over to ttm due to time and less stress on the fish. Sorry to hear about your loss, gems are beautiful
