Gem's 110 gal

It'll still be a couple months. I still have to paint the back and bottom of the tank, and have more equiptment I need, as well as rock and sand. Long process on a slim budget. I went a bit over budget on the stand already. Oh....forgot....I'm planning on staining the stand cherry. I think. Haven't bought stain yet though....so all options still open. :)

3/4 inch is going to be heavy, no matter if it is birch or not, i would advise skinning with something a bit more thin and trim it with 3/4 inch light wood. i was going to use the 1/2 inch that the rest of my stand was made out of and it was going to RIP my hinges off... FWIW

The skin is 1/2 inch Thomas. I was going to use 3/4 for the doors. Already bought and cut the 1/2 in so I'm stuck with it.

I'm holding off putting the skin on my stand for a bit. I still need to get the rest of the trim and doors and stain. That won;t happen for a couple weeks due to funds.
My project this weekend is painting the tank. I plan to paint the bottom as well as the back. I already bought 3 cans of Krylon Fusion, but will that be enough to cover both?
Also, I've had suggestions that I should clean the surfaces I'm going to paint with indentured alcohol first. Anyone have input on that? Is it neccesary or, for that matter, safe?

I do my own oil changes, and some easy repairs on my cars and my lawn mower. I mow the lawn too! :D

Ok...Rafael wants more pics....so...more pics.
Today was paint day. Taping the dam thing off was the most work so far.
Ready for paint.

I kind of had fun doing this part. Although.....I think I got some overspray up my nose! I sneezed like 5 times after.
First coat...

Now to see how many coats I can get on before the wind kicks up. It was starting to get a little breezy.

keep the pics coming!

so, things i think about. if you put a 250w light over a tank and the reflection after adding water "magnifies" the light; when you paint the back black then everything should balance out and you're back to where you started from...right :)
