General Questions about Anemones

So, I would like to put an anemone in my tank and have my pair of gold striped maroons host it. I'm pretty new when it comes to anemones and was wondering what people would recommend I get. I've had a African condylactus before and that turned out horribly. Right now I have a 40 gal tank with dual HO t5 lights 36". about 40 pounds of live rock, 2 GSMaroon, 2 Firefish, yellow tang, and 3 green chromis. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

well I'm no expert but I believe that the natural host for maroons is a BTA ( Bubble tip anemone ) AKA a fairy hardy and commonly distributed anemone.

A bta would be best make sure to get a big one because maroons can be rough on them. How long has your tank been set up?

I have a Long tentacle with my GBmaroon... I like it better cuz it is a sand dweller and also they tend not to move around the tank as much as the BTA... LTA's come in some great colors and they can do some pretty cool things with their tentacles like look like a big mat with a bunch of springs lol... Also u do not have to worry abt the LTA multiplying on u as well :)

Bta's are fine under t5 lighting but your tank is definately not ready for any anemone. I would wait until your tank has been set up for at least 6 months.

I would say 'definitely' is a strong word, but I agree with this in general.

PS. My RBTA is doing great under T5s, but it will depend on the bulbs used, etc.

T5's are OK, but I would think you would need more than 2 bulbs to support an anemone. IME with enough light they can be extremely hardy.
