I'd hate to get my hand caught in that thing, WOW

Daniel, I thought by your first couple of pics that your ghetto worthiness was in question but after I saw the electrical box mounted right to the wall...and directly under your RO/DI I had to laugh out loud! :)

Jamesvallison, you have completely embraced the ghetto methodology of aquarium keeping! :)

I need to get my pics on here. My new one is a cool whip container that I cut a hole in to fit over the drain to stop bubble splash

I have a new addition to this thread. I guess if I'd read the Tunze Osmolator specs I'd have discovered the puny little pump has a max height of 3.7m! I thought I better mount my topoff bucket as close to the tank as possible (main floor). So here she is and I've already smoked my head on this thing.

Why not put it a the other side of the wall down stairs. You don't need it to go down much.

I'd have to extend both the power cord and the black Tunze tubing to do so and I'm basically too lazy. After doing laundry today I walked up the stairs and planted a shoulder into it. The bucket and I are off to a good start!

I used an old bar for a stand on my first tank. Then the doors fell off and I never did get a hood. I guess it's not very "rigged" just ghetto.

Pic from 2004'ish (notice poor cell phone quality). Tank stand was a tv stand. Basically 4, 1/2" dowels screwed into particle board. Oh how that stand did shimmy and shake;

This is from my former 125gal;

This gem, notice the "uphill" skimmer return line. Top of the skimmer was hitting the lip on the back of the stand so couldn't go higher. The crown jewel was that the skimmer gate valved leaked. Notice the beer bottle catch can, with tupperware container for added volume. Of course with an exposed switchboard just in case it ever overflowed...

Here's how the rubbermaid sump worked. Basically one inside the other, the inner one was slotted to allow water in, acting as the return area. The thing I overlooked was that the inner would of course have less water, and the force from the water in the larger container would force it up, and it would suck dry.

The fix? Two pieces of PVC, notched to fit over the lip of the inner container, wedged against the top side of the stand. The two vertical PVC pieces in the second pic.

Check out my emergency drain from my water change tanks and display stand. It goes downstairs, through a workout room and under the bench where my rough-in was.

I was too lazy to remove the junk I had in the window. Guess it stays now!

Lol, when I saw the pipe going to the bench press, I thought you were going to say that it was your ghetto pump. You know, like a Flinstone car, but with bench pressing.
