Ghetto Rig

I don't have any pics but in college I used one of those fish containers some LFS's use to catch/hold fish and made a DIY siphon overflow box with it.

It failed over winter break :(

A wee word of caution for those wishing to overdrive lamps... it may cause the tube to rupture or the ballast to burn out, either situation will probably kill things in the tank, and cause a house fire, and sadly insurance will refuse to pay out as the gear was not used for the purpose to which it was intended! I would hate to see someone loose their house over a slightly higher PAR reading!

Just my two cents

Keep up the awesome ghetto everyone, but please keep it electrically safe.

Hey everyone...
at the urging of some in my local club forum...heres my contribution to the ghetto rigs: My 1st attempt at a DIY skimmer.

Also just for kicks...a DIY egg tumbler...not my design, I got it from someone on a cichlid forum.

Here's my chiller--1gal container thrown in the garage freezer. I drilled holes through the side of the freezer and plumbed it through the wall...It works. You just can't shut that pump off for long

Here is a stand I made for my skimmer to sit on. I made it out of some kind of plastic grid mat a friend gave me and tied it together with zip ties.

That is the coolest ghetto rig ever! Best design ever! Do you attach the fridge to a controller and have the fridge turn on and off or the pump?

Haha epic, controlling the fridge is definitely the best method. Tank temp wins over ice-cream storage any day. Im gonna have to copy this one for my tank!

I've kicked that one around for a while... I think the way to go would be a mini fridge with a bunch of coils in there - 50 to 100ft possibly more - and i think ideally submerged in water (better heat transfer). Let the fridge always be on and control the pump. This way you could still keep your beer in there. No wait... use a kegerator. This way for less than the price of a good aquarium chiller you get the chiller and the kegerator.

Now THATS thinking!
I have finally convinced the wife that building a new tank in general is a good idea, now to convince her of the kegerator/chiller

Ok so I know I have been saying for months that I was going to post something. Well here is my chance. This happened completely by accident but find it to be funny and fitting for this thread. This is by far the most ghetto you can get in a wave maker. I challenge anyone to beat this........
