Ghetto Rig

Moonlights or known at the dollar store as book lights. Clipped to side of tank or on my light, not sure yet.

inovrmyhd, that is one of the best submissions thus far. Way to think inside the box, haha.

Thanks, I try...lol. It's my first tank so I'm not worried nearly as much with the way it looks as I am how it functions. I'm almost ready to set my 75 up which will have a stand and cover I'm going to build to look nice. I'm not saying that when you open the top you won't see these exact same lights with another one built in the other speaker but at least it will look good when I'm not messing with it.

Here we go...

Fluorescent reflector - Mylar emergency blanket attached with spray adhesive to primed plywood.

LED Moonlight - $1 night light from Wal-Mart zip tied to canopy. Works pretty good actually.:D

Sump and Fuge - 2-18 gallon totes from Home Depot, $3 each. Plumbed together with a plastic shower drain and rubber coupling.

Filter Sock hanger - zip ties and orange velcro cable tie. (I know, time to clean the filter sock)

OK, I've embarrased myself enough.

Little Dollar General plastic trash can w/ top cut off and weirs cut in top for skimmer pump.

DIY skimmer, Kalk jug - Sunny D jug. Pink Styrofoam covering back hole in stand to deaden sound. Wife was complaining about noise.

Wallly World sump. Boards to hold sides of sump in place. All kinds of buildup in the sump from dosing.

DIY skimmer - bubbles galore!

Had to redirect the skimmer flow back to the trash can as the octopus NW pump is more powerful than my Mag 7 return pump.

Yall got me inspired. I've been wanting to put in a refugium for my chaeto and other stuff. So I got busy on my day off, and put in a refugium. Cleared all the stuff on the side of my stand. Looked out in the garage for tank of some kind. Found a 5 gal plastic container that needed something to do besides take up space. Stuffed it in the stand, It Fits -barely. Pvc pipe fit right in the hole, real snug. Hot dog I'm on a roll. Had an extra Maxijet in my salt mix trash can. Cut out the top. Slapped together a light fixture. Bandsawed 2X4 scraps for under the tank. I'm in business. Made up 5 gals of saltwater real quick. Threw in some rock and chaeto. Hokie Smokes! It works!

Another ghetto mod. Kids blocks to hold my lights as the cheap plastic thingys broke.

Been meaning to make a light hanger, but they work. Maybe I ought to paint them black, LOL.

I read this and thought I'd scroll down and see Legos...lol.

I'll see if I have any of my ghetto rigs left to take pics of. I know I had the following:

Ghetto Mag rock (pop bottle caps and magnets)
Ghetto bubble trap (4" PVC with a tube holder in the top)
Ghetto 2-part doser/dripper (ketchup bottle with air line tubing, light clip, and tons of zip ties)

You could probably count my RODI system as ghetto too as I fill buckets in the kitchen sink with the filter stuff taking up the back side of the counter. No other area in my small apartment.

I'll pic search over the weekend...
