'Today's activities...
DSB in sump in under stairs closet is to be connected to the new sump in the house, but needed to be about 8" higher, so it only needs one bridge syphon, not two...
Cue the levers and pivots, and up it goes on kerbstones and house-bricks...

I finnaly got tired of adjusting my skimmer because of evaporation, so I made this skimmer chamber out of a bucket. It overflows into the sump, but goes through some filter floss and then a nice bag of carbon. The little brown hose is the return from a little reactor filled with a nitrate remover, going back for another quick carbon rinse. There is no skimate, because this is right after it was turned on after being cleaned.

I know I'm necroposting, but this had me laughing out loud. I can't wait it read the rest of the thread now. :lolspin:

Omg I'm so glad I stumbled across this!! Makes me feel like anything is possible as long as I put my mind to it![emoji23]

Yeah so it's an old dead thread, still a great thread. Good counterpoint to the 'Pristine...' ones we all like so much. Wish I'd found it sooner.

Not my tank per say, but ole faithful brought a lot of fish home! Pretty much all that's holding it together is fishing line and zip ties. Even the bottom of the net has holes that are ziptied!

I had a civic when I was goign through school that the entire front end was mostly held on by zipties! zipties and duct tape fix everything! :lmao:

Personally I prefer the term Heath Robinson ;) but wow some mega ingenuity and at times down right pucker factor. My favourite is the hat mounted viewing window, brilliant bit of kit that man :)

I am an unashamed tinkerer! Todays project was a reactor! I have always just thrown my carbon in a bag in the sump but looking into using gfo and zeo from the aquaforest system and needed a reactor. So £30 or use my old skimmer, an orang squash bottle and a little electrical tape.... Oh and some garden clips so i can take the top off.

Behold.

Nice. How do you keep the carbon from getting loose and either coming out the top or going back into the pipe to the pump? Is it in a bag?

Didn't have a long enough single piece of hose for my return. Chunk of old spray bar (between the holes of course) makes a great joiner.
