It would be fine, but just know that you'll have very low light areas around the sides maybe about 8"-10". Anything up to 40" from the center of the light would still have pretty good light enough to grow lps. I have a friend who has it on a 40" long tank and it covers the entire length. Just remeber to hang it up higher and run it harder. So for example: hang it around 16"-18" off water line, and run it at 90%-100% power on high power mode. I'm sure if u hang it high enough, you'll be able to cover the 48" fine, especially since its 48" cube. With most people, they can't hang too high to cover the 48" length because their width is say 24" so the light would cover the 48" length but bleed way to much for the width. But in your case it could work if u hang it high enough, and just make sure to adjust the power on the LED higher as needed the higher U hang the light. The exact height of the light, you'd have to experiment to see how high up it needs to be hung to cover the entire tank.

Here's the facts on coverage.....scan down to the Mitras. I think you're stretching it, even for a non SPS tank. Sps tank 24x24" is max at best from one of these fixtures.

Big e: that's an awesome pic comparison! I like that! Hard to explain that in words, lol, but that's perfect for showing people what I try to explain to them sometimes. That's why I use 3 Mitras over a 63" long by 31" wide tank. 2 would do it, but I want that full coverage when corals grow. And Im planning to even add a fourth mitras to it, maybe a fifth since I have 5 of them. Some think it's overkill, but i want to have multiple light sources so that corals get even lighting without having to run them at full blast. Most of the people with SPS that end up not liking leds/ don't have success with leds because they usually don't have enough fixtures, they usually run the minimum recommended. All the tanks I've seen that are successful with leds and SPS run a crap load of fictures over the tank, lol.
Biecacka: those may work as well. But those compared to mitras are like Hondas to ferrari, it'll get from point a to point b, but they're completely different experience and two complete different machines. But aways like all other aspects in this hobby, go with what works for you, many ways to skin a cat

Yup, you need that overlap to create a consistent coverage over the whole tank. It also will help you eliminate hot spots, because of the overlap you can physically raise the fixtures.
One of the major mistakes was how most manufacturers over rated their coverage. Everyone just believed it as most can't afford or rationalize spending that kind of money to do it right.
Mitras is probably the best commercial LED box unit that actually comes close to the coverage they post on their site. As it is, if you're tank is SPS dominant you have to tighten those numbers a bit to reach the right par levels.

Take into account the GHL's unique and specialized design reflectors, they do not use TIR lenses or any lense, instead reflectors which make sure the LED's converge so you get zero singular colour, which enhances the scope, you also get better coverage.
The lamps were tried and tested by none other than Dr Sanjay Joshi and confirmed a coverage of 36x36" since then we have had users stretching this to 40" from one fixture however we do not recommend this

REALLY?!?!? I have 4 over 84x28x24 and the highest I've gone is 65% in HO mode. Forgot to remove a bag of carbon after a flat worm Exit treatment and scorched a few coral.

Maybe it's the spectrum that's off and the intensity is making up for the differance.
