tank is 5'-3" x 2' x 2' - I wanted to go 2'-6" deep but I am too short and my arm wont reach 
I am moving my 180 reef into this tank. I used to have my fish only in this location with a Giesemann Reflexx but with the reef I wanted to go back to Halides so I bought the spectra.

Oh really? I've got a 65" x30"x24" I guess that would work perfect for my tank then. I'm running a cebu right now but I love the fixture I may sell it and but the giesemann. No one was really able to fully secure my confidence in the fixtures ability. Please keep me updated on the spread

what t5's are you guys running with 250watt 20k radiums? if it's been said already i appologise. anyone using giesmann's bulbs?

Another mod on my Spectras today, and what a mod it is!! I added an AI Hydra 26 to the middle of the fixture so now I have moonlight and dawn/dusk. The coverage is just a tad under my tank width and creates shadowing, but I figure that's ok 'cuz dawn and dusk puts the sun on the horizon with long shadowing and for moonlight the effect is kinda spotlightish and cool 
AND in one of those incredibly rare moments when life just works out it turns out that inside the Spectra there are two hanging plates that have holes drilled in the center of the plates and get this . . . THEY ARE EXACTLY THE RIGHT WIDTH APART FOR THE HYDRA MOUNTING HOLES!!!!!! :bounce1: I had to drill the holes slightly larger, but that was trivial. Then a nut plus a on inch spacer made the unit perfectly flush. It was like they designed the Hydra to fit perfectly.

two 2.5 inch 8-32 bolts with nut
two one inch spacers
hex head to remove the Spectra cover
flat head screw driver
a dowel and tape to snake the power line in
I think that was it. It took all of 15 minutes and cost 300 bucks and now my $600 used Spectra is the same as a Giesemann Moonlight that costs $2850

woa... aren't you worried about heat issues? the fixture gets decently hot

No only because I have set the LEDs to turn off when the halides turn on. There is some residual heat but the LEDs actually get pretty hot themselves thats why they are surrounded by a massive heat sink. I was able to touch the sides of the Hydra while the halides were running and they were barely warm to the touch. Also I don't use the light guards on the halides or the T5s so the unit dissipates considerably more heat than it was originally intended to plus they sell a 400 watt Spectra with LEDs in that exact spot and doesn't have active cooling either. No doubt it will shorten the life of the T5s and the LEDs but alas that is the price we pay for awesomeness

Non dim-able version..
I don't like dimming t-5
Also I got 6 lamp version, I am guessing this is the same as the 8-lamp version. The outer two lamp, sockets seem to be left out and the ballast. In those spots I might add a led strip for dusk to dawn.
When I get a chance I will..
