Glover Family Reef 475G DT 640G TSV

Ok tried to get my QT tanks running last night. EnDed up with 3 cracked tanks and one good one. Actually siliconed one crack and the tank is holding water. Good thing the tanks where only 10 bucks. I'll pick up a couple more when I get the nerve to drill them. But I do have the 2 tanks running and managed to catch 3 fish as I prepare for the big day Sunday.

Apex.... WOW. I was up to midnight playing with that thing. Can't wait for the other probes to come. So much to learn about that thing. Know what ill be doing at work lol

First, thanks for sharing your build and progress!

Bummer about the QT setup but hang on for all the Apex fun. What probes/modules did you get? One thing I neglected to get with my Apex were probe mounts/holders. If you don't have them yet then it ok because tomorrow is Friday and it'd be a shame to not order something ;)

Modules:
WXM
Module 2
Module 3 (but returning)

Neptune Systems Standard Grade pH Probe for the Ca reactor
Nepptune Systems Temperature Probe For 1 for the sump one for the DT overflow
Neptune Lab Grade Conductivity Probe

Great. One thing on the salinity/conductivity probe. If you use a temp probe as part of the salinity measurement, it seems you need a 2nd temp probe if you want to display the temp on it's own. ie on the display or in graphs. Since you have two you can could use 1 on module2 and one on the base unit (placed in your sump) for display and graphing.

I know you probably found this in your research, but did you start the hole saw going in at an angle? I have heard of many people cracking tanks attempting to drill straight down from the get go. My method is to:

Make a donut out of plumbers putty where you want to drill.
Fill it with water and a drop of dishwashing liquid.
Drill at a 45 degree angle until you feel the bit start to bite.
Slowly move the drill up to perpendicular with the tank.
Let the weight of the drill push down on the glass (don't push down).
Make sure your drill bit is on highest speed.
Better to use a corded drill, but if you don't have one, make sure that you have a freshly charged battery.

Feedback please

Sunday the tank is scheduled to arrive at 7 pm local time. Figure
It will be 8:00 before its in place. Thinking ill fill the tank with tap water about 50% to monitor leaks and stand strength as well as floor strength. I will be taking measurements looking for ceiling sag.

If all goes well add 25% more tap water Monday night and then 20% more Tuesday. Wednesday if all checked out start aquascaping. Once that is to my liking fill with tank water??

Anyone ?

Pretty exciting Loserland ! I building a less exciting 150g DD cube and I can't wait to be where you are this weekend. Good luck!!!

By the way, I was wrong here. My 2nd Temp probe showed up and I was playing with my apex after setting it up and it seems I could have had the PM2 temp displayed by it's self. Oh well. I just renamed them to DispTemp and SumpTemp.

Sounds like a solid plan.

Lighting:

Well I heard from Ecotech today about how many lights I will need over my tank. I'm not so happy with the answer, but whats another couple thousand $$$$ at this point of the project.

So 8 units needed. It's friday so what the hey I ordered 2 of the 8 today!

I live in Arnold by Jeffco and Leemay. Apple Valley Farms subdivision.

Finally got that Pay Later thing working at Marine Depot, had my cell number in instead of home number.

Sooo...................

Screw it I ordered the other 6 Radions....

Got 6 months to pay for them, nice!

Plan for the weekend is to get the chiller connected.

I talked to one of the sponsors as I was asking what would be better for lighting on my tank and he said the AI Vegas have a deeper penetration than the Radions. He said I need 8 of them over my tank and to hang them atleast 15 inches above the water level. But that was their preference for my tank.
