Glover Family Reef 475G DT 640G TSV

other Skimmer I'm liking, maybe a little more:

Reef Dynamics INS300 Protein Skimmer with the Bioreactor they sell.

Why the 8000? I know that it has a larger pump than the 6000/5000. My question in in regards to rating. The 8000 is rated for tanks up to 1000 gal. OP has stated that total system volume is going to be approximately 600 gallons. Wouldn't a 6000xp SSS (rated up to 640 gallons heavily stocked) draw less power, take up less space, cost half as much as the 8000, and meet the skimming needs of the system?
My thoughts are that bio load might not be high enough in the system to produce a consistent head with the 8000. Just my $.02.

My thoughts too???

Not to mention while running an ecosystem style sump under skimming would be preferred to over skimming ?

Loserland, quick question for you. The thread title says 640 gallon TSV, while your signature says 500+. While not a huge range, narrowing down the total system volume and knowing what your intended stocking level is would improve the advice you are getting on skimmers.
As far as the Diablo, I love reef octopus (Coralvue) skimmers. The build quality is excellent at a price point that a hobbyist can actually stomach. That being said, they have a lot of products with a lot of different features.
I am not a fan of the PSK pumps that they offer on the xs and diablo lines. They are notorious for startup issues.
The bubble blaster pumps offered on the SRO line holds its own against any pump in the world. For the price, nothing even comes close.
The INS300 is under powered for your system.
I have never used the miracle mud system so I can't speak to the needs of under skimming.

Ok so here is the volume:

Display Tank: 96 x 37.5 x (30.5-1.5) = 451.9 gallons

My old 75 gallon tank = 65 gallons

Sump 48 x 22 x (20-10) = 45.7 gallons

Total volume = 562 gallons.. as best I can figure.

Live stock will be mixed reef (sps, lps, softies, and clams) with medium fish load of tangs, clowns, and misc reef safe fish.

What is everyone's input on a Tunze wave box instead of the MP60's. Reading up on them and they seem to really do a good job. Not sure on a tank of this size if it still does that good of a job?

Please discuss.....

Ok busy night... Every good fish room has a sink. So after a bunch of trips to HD sink is connected, water is back on, and no leaks, well no leaks the second time connecting the drain. Got sone bad advice from HD and got the wrong part the first try. Had a real tough time cutting the main water lines and had to remove some duct work. Ie rip it out. Will have to fix that it is the cold air return and man was it nasty!

I post a picture tomorrow :-)

Big day tomorrow!! Ecosystem sump be delivered to me at work!!!

Pictures to come and lots to do before Vegas Saturday!
