Im haveing a helluva time gluing a 5" monti cap. Ive read where using super glue along with epoxy is best but I cant get it to stay. any ideas? my poor cap is being beat to hec

DO use the gel and two-part (rock-gel-2part-gel-monti).
Try first glueing to a piece of rubble first...allow to set...then rubble to rock-work.
Rather than glueing monti edge-on, try near center bottom of monti...works well and edges will grow out in all directions (may nead to remove a bit of tissue for the gluing if no skeleton showing).

Ill try rubble than rock... thanks. where can you get gel in Lareger tubes. i blow thru the little ones

I glue to rock rubble first. I then use portland cement and cement it to the rock. Ain't going anywhere!

portland cement?? does that effect your tank in any way? you do this out of the water right? if so it wouldnt work for me. the rock I want to adhere it to has several corals on it

I adhere it in the tank. I use a chemical that makes the cement very hard very quick. You have less then 2 minutes to use it or make a new batch. I use a spoonful and it holds on great. The smaller the tank, the less frags you should do as I believe it can raise ph. But it takes ALOT to do that. It clouds the tank up temporarily but no bad affects.

I get the chemical from a fish store near me. He supposebly makes it himself but I think he just knows of a bonding agent that causes the cement to harden very very quick. I love the stuff. It's great for patching up Xenia or other nuisance pests. Cements right over em and all gone. Then corraline takes over :)

I glued a fair sized (3-4") cap a couple weeks ago. I was glueing this to a rock that I couldn't remove from the tank. The best approach I found was:

- dry the edge of the cap where you'll be mounting it
- apply a bead of super glue gel to the edge
- form a string/bead of epoxy and apply on top of the super glue. Form the epoxy around the cap, a little more supported on the bottom side.
- apply a bead to the epoxy that is on the cap
- quickly place into tank and push frag against the rock, squeezing the epoxy to the rock
- hold for 30 seconds or so

If your cap is soo heavy, try to add some kind of support to hold it up (pvc pipe?) until the epoxy dries.

Which piece is it? I simply take the rubble (an old clam shell works great) and the cap out of the tank. Dry them off (pat back side of cap with paper towel) place alot of super glue on the back of cap, then gentley press it onto the rubble for 10-15 seconds. I then place both on the bottom of the tank to make sure the set takes. A couple of days after that I glue the bottom of the rubble and place all of it in the final resting place. It usually works for me.
