Go Big OR Go Home! Construction of a 1000 gallon System!!

I ahve been having a hard time getting mine to stay on and I am using the draw-string kind. Have you tried any of the "loop" kind?

I have the draw-string kind, and I use a long plastic zip tie. But, I also have a PVC reducer to help hold the sock. It's a 2" to a 4". Works great. Here is a picture..

I was just trying to solve this same problem of keeping the filter sock on. I can't believe I didn't think of this before, how simple. Now I just have to do a minor change to the plumbing and done.

By the way, this is a great set up, can't wait to see how this tank looks in a year. I am jealous of all you fish room people. I guess I need a new house.

Nice work! It is nice to see those big euro reefs in there, My tank (120x48x32) is being built it will be here in 3 weeks... I also plan on using the euro reefs in my system. How tall are they? My fish room is under the tank...limited space ya know..

Looks great bstone. This setup is the ultimate dream reef. Can you post a picture of how your seaswirls are attached to the tank. I'm going to have two on my tank attached with the brackets to the euro bracing, wondering what you did. Also how did you cover the styrofoam on the front of the tank, molding?

I actually took all the brackets off and used Velcro and attached it to the tank. This way the Sea Swirl gets farther down into the water. It worked out great!! Here is a picture..

I really don't understand your question on the styrofoam. Do you mean on the front when I put drywall over it? The stand is exactly 1/2" bigger then the tank, and so the styrofoam is the same size as the stand. So, when I put the dry and trim on the outside of the tank I just attached it to the wood stand. This left me a 1/2" gap between the tank and the drywall, so I plan to just put trim around it. I hope that answers your question, if not please let me know!

Thanks for the kind comments! Man, your display tank will be just alittle bigger then mine (just 2 inches taller). Who is building your tank?

The skimmers are 47-1/4" high. Let me know if you have any other questions..

Abosolutely Astonishing :eek1:
Any updates

I should have rock in it next week. I plan on building the canopy today/tomorrow. I will post pictures when I have this done!

I am following this thread intensely. I am putting together a 450 with about 700 gallons total. Just a baby compared to this.
I look forward to canopy part. I will be using L3'a also. My lights wil be hung from the floor joist as my reef will be in a finished basement room. I have a header / beam to deal with that will be across the back edge of my tank. If I can figure out some sort of track I should be good. Looks awesome.

Thanks, I see you had holes drilled in the euro brace. They wouldn't do that for me they said it would compromise the integrity of the tank. Yeah I was asking about the front with the foam, I see what you are doing. My tank will be on a stand (not inwall) and am trying to think of a way to hide the foam, I'm alittle worried if the foam is even with the tank it might not support the glass edge, but if I make it longer like you how do I hide it?

You should make it at least 1/2" bigger all around. I would just do what I did and put the wood panel all around your tank stand and then just fill in the 1/2" gap with trim work. Its hard to say without seeing your setup also! I hope that helped a little?

Alright you picture freaks!! LOL

I did my lighting this weekend so therefore I have some pictures to update with!

This the hanging system for my lighting. I still need to wire the VHO stuff! But, the whole system is on a pulley to adjust the height.

Here is a picture from the front room. I still need to finish the drywall, add the retractable paneling on the top (so I can access the tank), and then add the wood trim working, then paint. Yep that's it. Wow, I just realized how much more work I have to do on the outside of the room!!
