Going tonight for my Advanced Open H2O with night diving at Laguna Beach. Excited to do night diving but apprehensive due to the darkness :)

On Sunday I will do my deep with dry suit. Hope that will workout ok.....

I will post some picts if all goes well.

Simon

PS. Got my DANs insurance too :)

sweet, night dives are the best! i actually liked them better than day dives. how you ever looked at your tank at night? exactly its cool. good luck!

Well the dive did not go too well. First I did not have enough weights because I took out my pony air so that decreased my weight by 7lbs. Second my reg had sand in it so it started to free flow. O-well Sunday may be better dive off boat day. Wow diving off Laguna beach is murky and hard :0 But maybe I am just out of shape and not use to the 7mm wetsuit and hood.

Question. After I cleaned and purged with air few times my reg stopped free flowing. Should I take it in for checkup?

If your absolutely sure that the free flow was from nothing more than a simple grain of sand, I wouldn't worry about. However, if there is any doubt, than get the reg serviced. Better safe than sorry ;)

Well I am done with my 100' dive and reg did not free flow. It was cold about 52 deg down there. My other dives at 34 - 60 feet was warm in comparism so I wore my 1.5mm hood. Almost an Advance Diver now. Only one left is night dive :)

Hey Simon,
Just make sure you have enough lights for nite dive. I use three (one on the back of tank for marker, one is hand held and one on my BC for back up) When you down there make sure you turn off your lights for awhile. It is totally different.
as for dry suit, wear ankle wts. and it is so nice in dry suit. you actually sweat when everyone is c/o how cold the dive.
Good luck.

Don't use ankle weights. I did it all without them and I would suggest diving the correct way. Also you legs get tried faster with them. If you are a guy have fun trying to find your ba**s after you use a dry suit for 4-5 days 3 dives a day. BUt a dry suit is very worth it. I don't mind diving in waters around 40-45 degrees. If only I could afford to buy a dry suit...if you plan on buying a dry suit soon make sure you buy one with the zipper seals in the neck and wrists it will make changing out ripped seals much easier and cheaper int he long run.

It is just my $.02. I wear ankle wts. when I use dry suit. I like it. Simon, try it or not, you will not hurt my feeling.

I bought an off-the-rack Dive Rite dry suit. The legs are a little baggy near the bottom, so I bought a set of gator wraps. They don't keep all of the air out of your boots, but they do help.

I never tried ankle weights. It seems like they are "solution" for a problem instead of a preventative measure. Then again, one could argue that they (weights and gators) are both crutches and we should all dump them and learn to dive properly:lol:
I say whatever works without causing a safety issue...
