Going topless...

...on my tank

Are YWG or lyretail anthias notorious jumpers? I'm switching tanks this weekend so I'll have the opportunity to give away any fish that might take the leap of death.

Also, am I right in thinking any and all wrasses are a jumping threat? Would love a mystery wrasse but that would be an expensive dog treat.

Welcome! I just went topless over the weekend :) feels great to breathe :lolspin:

I was having a hard time getting the tank temp down from 82. Took the tops off and a day later it was 79. I guess the mag 7, mag 3, MJ600 and (2) MJ1200s put off their share of heat along with the lights.

I had one leap out and was consumed just like that.Heres the frig'en culprit.wifes dog.
The dogs like to lay in front of the tank on an area rug I put their to keep saltwater from wrecking the hardwood floor. To be honest I didn't even think ywg were jumpers to begin with.Lesson learned.

I had no idea wrasses were jumpers.I bought a pair of YWG and when I first introduced them to the tank they stayed near the top.I should of known right then. The one left had taken to the bottom.Iv'e never seen him anywhere near the upper regions.I dont really know if that quantifies him as a nonjumper though.
I like those gobys but I dont think I would trust them anymore from a jumping aspect.Just speculating of course I think the rule like angelfish could be somewhat applied. Some angels =non reefsafe. Some gobys=jumpers.Even though they are the exact same sp.

Vrom my personal experiences anything that has anthia or wrasse in their name equals possible jumper. could you possibly put a screen like Gary uses over the top

Jay, they are jumpers. Like Scott said the question is when. They are beautiful fish, but if you can't keep em in the tank don't keep em at all. They will jump. JME

 If you ask in his "reef junk" post he may even have some laying around.....

yep.

IMO/IME there's no reason not to run garden netting on top of the aquarium.
Look at the recent pix I posted of my aquarium. Did you notice the netting top?

Graves- what kind of dog is that?

Looks just like ours!

I think it will definitely be noticable on a rimless tank, hence the aversion.

No worries though, I will just have a tank full of frogfish and flounder.

Well, to be honest,I have no earthly idea what kind of dog it is.My wife came home with 2 of them.I think she got suckered. Im not entirely convinced its 100% canine.Well Im not saying its half cat but I think of dogs as bigger, mans best friend type of.... I dont know but that brown one looks way to "rodent-ish to me".

I know that doesn't help but Ill ask her.

sorry for the hijack, jay!

Part poodle, part Shih Tzu. Shitzapoo.

Q: what do you get when you cross a Bulldog with a Shih Tzu? :)

ours is a reef safe jumper :D

here's a kicker:

I happened to run into a stranger at a LFS carrying a dog that looked exactly like ours.
It turned out that both ewoks came from the same breeder.

Lhasa Apso ? LOL!

Those that know me already know that I'm not a dog person but it's difficult not to fall in love with these critters.
