Gold Stripe Maroon Clown Pair

These two don't have an anemone any longer as they were too aggressive with it and loved it to death, but, they've found something else to host in... anyone ever seen a pair of clowns host in a Zebra Moray Eel?

Wow, cool, but trippy.
That 2nd vid w/ eels mouth open, that would make me concerened for clown a bit.
How long together, and does that eel seem like it's just sensing the clown or irritated or claiming dominance?

It's just breathing. It opens its mouth up a bit wider when she nuzzles up against it, but it's not showing any sort of aggression at all. They have been together since last year and I noticed the hosting this year. The clowns actually "protect" the eel from the trigger that's in there and when the female darts out of the video, she's chasing the trigger away. They also bring shrimp to the eel to feed it. We'll have to get video of that.

I was going to say it would be funny to see clown trying to feed it, AND IT ACTUALLY DOES??!!
Yeah, we need vid of that.

+1 davocean

Clownfish are amazing creatures. Looking at the size and vigor of that female maroon, I almost wonder if the eel isn't too intimidated to try eating her! ;)

These two are a great pair - both were paired up before but lost their mates and were donated to me for school. I combined them and they bonded immediately. The female is a bruiser and the male has great fins and coloration. Myself, I wouldn't mess with her, either, even if I was a crab and mussel crushing 2.5'+ moray eel...

Went to feed everything today before winter break at school. They have been through this before, but we'll see how they do over the break as they haven't had much attention this past week due to snow.
