Green birdsnest question

I've had a green birdsnest for a while now and I accidentally knocked it with my hand last night. its about the size of a softball but it was only connected by one tiny branch.

my question is how in the world do I remount this thing? if I just leave it sitting will it eventually reconnect? or would I be better off using some of that coral mounting putty?

Very carefully.

When this happened to me I placed some epoxy, with superglue, on the base of the coral and then carefully pushed it down to the rock I wanted it on. The key is to put it in a location where it can stand on it's own while the glue and epoxy set. I would find a place, carefully look to where the rock met the coral, then apply the glue, epoxy, more glue, and place in that location.

Yeah I always superglue them to a chunk of rock. Then eventually I use epoxy to permanently attach the rock once I find the right spot.

what if it's perfectly sitting where it was? it's not rocking in the flow or anything. one branch is resting on a rock, will that branch encrust? I will get a side pic up as soon as I get home.

No, it won't encrust that much or nearly enough. I have no idea how these things stay attached in the wild.

This is what mine looked like 6 month ago after I re-mounted it.

That large and I swear it never encrusted. It was on the peak of a rock so I glued epoxy to the rock with a glob of superglue on top of it, then carefully grabbed the bird and shoved it back down over the rock. Lost a few tips but nothing horrible.
