Green Carpet Anemone-shoul I keep it?

I recently purchased an established reef aquarium and it cam with a big green carpet anemone (8-9 inches when expanded). While I was getting ready to transfer my livestock and the anemone to the new tank, the anemone ate my beautiful big purple tang!!!! I was told by the LFS that being that they were in close confines and a stressfull situation (in a 32 gal. trashbin awaiting tranfer to the new tank) is why this happened. After doing more research though on these animals I am wondering how safe they are to keep in the tank w/ my other fish. So far my fish are steering clear of it- but i just hate the thought of one of them swimming into or too near it at night. I am housing 2 clowns (not concerned about them), 1 foxface, 4 damsels, 1 pink tailed trigger, 1 royal gramma, 1 flame angel in a 90 gallon tank. Should I maybe get rid of the carpet for the sake of my fish. If I decide to get rid of him...what is the best way to go about removing him from the rock that he is attached to? why do i keep referring to it as a "he"???:p Anyway, any suggestions would help. He...it appears to be very healthy, fully expanding all day, very very sticky, but a bit light green...not sure how dark it should really be. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fish can learn to avoid these anemones, but there is always a chance of them getting eaten. Especially if the fish is sick, stressed, or a new introduction to the tank. I keep my large carpet with a yellow tang, royal gramma, and 3 small damsels. They have all learned how close they can get. I have lost several fish in the past to the carpet though.

They will eat fish. Most fish will stay away from them. In close confines like you had them it doesn't surprise me at all your tang got eaten. I've never lost any fish but bottom feeders to my nem. I'm not even sure about the bottom feeders they just disappeared.

Yea, I have never lost a fish to one but it can happen. I have had all kinds and never had any problems. I also set my anemone tank up for just that, anemones. I have kept them with SPS and other stuff though. They all went to a 29 when I lost about 4 heads on my Weeping Lords. That day it was a weeping Joey. [LOL]
