griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

No work done Monday, Mike wanted to start with the ceiling and couldn’t source a drywall lift (he’s working alone). Got the lift today and started. But, then had ?’s about the existing/future lights. I was busy at work and couldn’t answer his calls. So, some progress. Tonight we discussed the light situation and have a plan. Should have more progress tomorrow. Mike is slow with his work, but he’s meticulous and does fantastic work.

Mike made some good progress yesterday. We're removing the old builder grade pull chain lights and will be replacing them with canless LEDs. As a result, I don't currently have any lighting other than the tank and pictures didn't turn out well.

We do have a slight snag. Where the current tank is located (and can't be relocated anywhere) is one of the areas needing drywall ceiling installed. My lighting is suspended from the joists above the tank. So, we're going to have to finish that area in phase 2. We'll get the ceiling and wall done in the rest of the basement, paint and do the vinyl plank floor. Then, the new tank will be setup, livestock transferred from the existing tank, tear the old tank down and finish the ceiling and walls.

Mike did some tweaking to the electrical work and started mudding and taping yesterday. He should finish mudding today. He has to go out of town for a week for a family function starting tomorrow and was hoping to get to the point where we could paint while he was gone. But, the wall the boys did (where the tank will be located), they did such a horrible job mudding that he's going to have to do a skim coat over the entire thing. So, he's not sure he'll be able to get to the point where we can paint the tank wall before he has to leave.

ETA - I'll try to get some pics tonight but, without the lights installed, not sure how well they'll turn out.

Treadmill went bye bye last weekend. It's really old and the belt is slipping despite several attempts to repair it. We'll replace it with a smaller one.

Treadmill went bye bye last weekend. It's really old and the belt is slipping despite several attempts to repair it. We'll replace it with a smaller one.

somehow my dad at 63 still runs about a 5k every morning. I don't know how he does it, in my mind he's about 40lbs overweight and I know even at my leanest it would blow up my feet and knees attempting that every day. his treadmill journeys have been something else I think he did 2 or 3 repairs before replacing it. I'm dreading when my wife's needs to be replaced because I put it in a room I'll never get it out of with out sawing it up, lol.

Yeah, getting that thing out of the basement was a real challenge. Thankfully, our son is a former college linebacker and, while he's not a big as his playing days, he's still strong as an ox and we were able to wrangle it out. But, we did have to take a post out at the bottom of the stairs. We didn't put it in the basement because we had it at our old house and let the movers do it.

Well, this had to happen for the upgrade to happen. So, here we are.

Mike got back in town Tuesday but my sister ended up having to have surgery. So, no progress on the basement.

Shoulda told him while she’s in surgery he should do surgery on the basement. Make him feel important lol

Mike has also been having some health issues (heart) but, the drywall in the half of the basement where the tank will go is done except 1 hole I need to patch.

Holiday weekend, boating, taking granddaughter to Six Flags, so we didn’t get much done. But, I started patching the hole and we ground the rust off the metal basement window frames. Will paint the frames with Rust Reformer and then Rustoleum.

You are doing a lot of work in the basement. Consider protecting the walls.
