griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

After the acid bath and subsequent soak in baking soda water, the rock I got from my friend is a bit stinky. I think I’d like to do a bleach soak but, I may have to put off using that rock b/c I think you need to do that outside (chlorine gas) and temps are pretty damn cold here.
Definitely minimize chlorine inside for a number of reasons.

Hmmm, maybe I can still bleach bath the rock outside??? I have pool shock I was planning to use.

Oh, I do have an extra 300w heater I suppose I could put in the Brute too. Not sure why I didn’t think of that beforehand.

Ordered 50 lbs of this to help flesh out the base reef.
So, this has been discontinued or out of stock. Scott from Aquarium Specialty called me to let me know he couldn’t get it from his supplier. I should have guessed that might be the case since I couldn’t find that rock in stock or offered anywhere else.

He offered a refund, credit towards other rock or, as an alternative, he said he had a bunch of mixed rock…some used, some new and he could put a package of 50 lbs together for me. I opted to go with the mixed rock package.

Scott was great to deal with and really went above and beyond in his customer service. He said he hand picked each rock and is shipping it in 2 boxes to minimize breakage. Very impressed with how he handled the situation and would highly recommend buying from him.

Oh, wait, were you talking about the bleach bath or the return pump? For the bleach bath, I have several MJ1200 with the propeller prop on them.
Yeah, I was thinking of the bleach bath. Moving water takes longer to freeze, plus the heat from the pump would help.

So happy with the rock Scott at Aquarium Specialty sent. He wrapped each rock individually, bubble wrap and padding. Amazing pieces and no breakage. Definitely will buy from him again:

With anywhere between 0 and 5 million inches of snow predicted for Saturday, we’ll see if I can finish the plumbing on the tank.

Based on the weather, I did pick up a generator just in case.

Does your city actually own a snow plow? Just curious :ROFLMAO:

Oh, heck yes they have many. Both full time city/county/state and during big storms they bring in private contractors as well. They actually do a pretty good job, unless they are surprised by the amount we get.

Thoughts? Remember, I’ll also be adding the live rock from my current tank and might add some real live rock.
