griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Another coat couldn't hurt? Plus, it still looks level, but if it's settling, wouldn't it show up more decidedly in a few more days/weeks? I'd wait.

I fill mine with a hose and let it sit overnight. Then I siphon it out into the yard and fix anything that shows. But that has happened vary rarely and only on carpet.

Fourth coat of paint done. I’ll caulk the bottom of the drywall tomorrow after work and (maybe) put in the baseboard. Once that’s done, the plumbing can begin.

If you have the ability, maybe consider creating a “flood tray” of sorts lined with plastic to further prevent any potential water issues should they arise

Citric acid bath for the rock I got from my friend. Debating doing a bleach bath after (yes, I know most people do the bleach first and then acid) but the weather getting colder may prevent that as o won’t be able to do that outside with below freezing temps.

Also, putting the sump in place. I bought a $7 yoga mat from Five Below (so much for being $5 and below) and cut it to put between the sump and “stand.” Need to level it out and get it lined up where I want.

I want to do some type of manifold system for my return and doing some mental gymnastics trying to figure out exactly what I’m going to do.

Oh for crying out loud. I got the sump in place and leveled. Then realized I forgot to put the baseboard up😂🤣

The two girls, one SIL, grandkids and granddogs all came over again and derailed my momentum. After they left, I put the baseboard up and caulked. Waiting for the caulk to dry and will resume. Maybe not today but for sure tomorrow.

Looking for opinions.

The stand is a little weird. The overflow is in the center of the tank but, the only opening in the stand is the left 1/3 so, that’s where I made the hole in the wall.

The sump is setup so the return chamber is in the back center but, the inflow is the back left.

Should I center the sump on the hole for a less return plumbing and longer overflow plumbing. Or, should I move it to the right a bit for less overflow plumbing and longer return?

As a second question, does anyone have experience with eShopps flex hose for overflow? I’m reading mixed reviews on it.
