H. mag health

Gig 'em

I have a magnifica that I have had established in my tank for about 9 months now and so far has been doing great. Tentacles have improved in shape and color and the anemone has been growing. I noticed a month or two ago that the mouth was remaining open and am starting to get worried and wonder why the mouth isn't closing. Does anyone with long term magnifica experience have any input or ideas as to why this could be?

It does get fed some krill whenever I feed the fish, so at first I assumed maybe it was always releasing waste, but I have never seen anything actually come out. The mouth is just slightly open instead of the "puckered" look. It's not gaping open, just a bit... Open... All the time. I wish I had a good picture, I'll have to take one next time I'm home, but here's a picture I took of it a day or two ago to demonstrate at least what it looks like.

Mine did it for awhile. I've had it well over a year in captivity. The mouth was partially puffed out or a tad open. It has since gone away without issue. Your nem appears to be in great health from that picture.

As long as it doesn't fully deflate, I wouldn't be too concerned. My mags and gigs all open their mouths from time to time. I used to feed my nems shrimp and salmon but have since switched to primarily frozen mysis and LRS fish food. It's probably a coincidence but I noticed that they don't open their mouths as much.

My anemone hasn't deflated since the week I got it and put it through treatment. It appears perfectly healthy and is sticky and happy looking. It's just the constant open mouth that has me scratching my head

Mine will do that from time to time as well.

Does it have a normal feeding response?
Are the tentacles a normal shape?
Does it deflate at all?

If the answers are yes, yes, and no....dont sweat it.
