Halide Q & A

im looking at putting a 70w fish need it fixture over a 10gallon zoa tank, i know its not the best fixture but i'm wondering if the 70w will be enough to do zoas and lps. want to avoid running the tank too hot as well. any advice?

70w in a 10gal and you can grow anything you want that doesn't get too big and outgrow the tank but heat may be an issue depending on how high the light is

my $.02

thats kinda what i was thinking. if i have to i can run a fan on the tank if need be.

Was thinking about the 70w but I'm now tossing around the idea of going with a 150w so I have a better bulb selection. Obviously the 150w is way overkill on a 10 gallon so the question is how high would I have to hang the light to avoid boiling my tank.

New MH user...
I just bought from a local reefer, a 29 gal acryllic tank drilled with overflow, 30" long 18" deep, and 2 150 MH pendants for $20.
I am thinking of turning this tank into a frag tank.
Can I do this with those lights? Is 2 150 watt MH's too much for this tank? Is 1 enough to grow SPS?
I have not set up the tank yet, but I'm looking for options to use the MH's
Thanks in advance...

Hi all new to MH and have a stupid question.

How do you know if the ballast and reflector are compatible?

For example If I want to run a galaxy ballast and a lumenarc reflector.

Or a m80 ballast and a lumenarc reflector?

I'm looking to run a mogul setup for a radium 20k :P.

36x36x30 sps tank,2x400watt lumen bright,to much?

Perhaps a bit excessive with those spotlight reflectors but it will work. Be sure and hang those LB's about 18" from the bulb to the water as this will lessen the spotlight effect somewhat.

Are the lumenarc reflectors marked? I'm going to pick up 3 large reflectors and would like to know how to make sure they are legit. I trust the guy I'm buying from but he got them in a recent setup purchase.
