Ok, I am looking at some reflectors for my 90 gallon tank for some halides. I will be getting two 250 halides for it.
Most likely 250w galaxy with radiums
The reflectors I am looking at are the Lumen max 2 or the lumen max elite.
I m concerned about size ect... Just your thoughts.
Inside canopy dimensions are 18.5x48x15
Might run 2 t5s as well with this. Thanks in advance.

Lumenmax elite is too wide to allow a couple of T5's over a standard 18" wide 90 gallon. I believe they are 15" wide. Unless you plan on using the internally reflected T5 bulbs ... no external reflector and even then it is tight with the inside of the tank measuring across the inside of the black trim actually being 16.5" wide
I would personally go with the Lumenmax 2 which would JUST allow for a couple of T5's with icecap reflectors or other reflectors 2.5" wide or less.

Max 2 is 11.5" wide ... Icecap SLR's are 2.5" wide. So you are looking at 16.5" minimum inside the canopy to avoid any light blockage while fitting everything in and no room to spare.

One more thing ... since the Max 2 provides good coverage over a 2 foot area (and the elite even wider) there is a good amount of light spillage when hanging these over a 90 gallon. Wont matter inside a canopy. The Max 2 will work great but the reef optix is a good choice as well. I have used and still own the max 2 and 3 as well as the Reef Optix. Im currently using the Reef Optix over the 90. Light spill from the Max didnt matter for me either because its an in wall tank but the Reef Optix had a narrower spread and it actually directs more light into the 90 gallon than the Max did while allowing me to keep the halides raised up a bit to help with heat. The Max 2 and 3 over a 90 is better used a bit lower since the spread is a good deal wider than the 18". Again, in your canopy, spillage wont matter. And, the Max is probably a better designed reflector overall, but just some more food for thought. The Reef Optix is another option and very well suited for am 18" wide 90 gallon and a very good reflector as well. And would give you more room to work with inside the canopy being a couple inches narrower than the Max 2 or 3 .

Anyway, just based on the two options alone, I would go with the Max over the elite for an 18" wide 90 gallon.

I ll take alook at the optics again. I jsut thought were a cheaper reflector. I have the aaquatinic t5 reflectors that are 2" wide.

The reef optix is a smaller reflector designed for smaller coverage area. And it's not a symmetrical, square reflector so coverage isnt as symmetrical as the square reflectors. But the coverage needed over an 18" by 24" area (1/2 a 90 gallon) doesnt require the reflector to provide symmetrical coverage. It's every bit as well built as the Lumenmax ... its not a cheap reflector. Just a different design which works well over the narrower tank. It was Just a suggestion for another option, the Max will work well.

FWIW I would not use a LME reflector on a tank under 30" deep... They have some ridiculous PAR ratings and would likely bleach whatever you have in your tank... I agree, you should go with the LM 2's...

I have LME pushing 250w SE radiums over my 72 bow and couldn't be happier. It was a big step up from my previous retro reflectors so I don't have anything else to compare them to. They do spill light over and are about 14" over the tank for both heat and intensity purposes.

I am surprised the elites have more votes but the people I talk to seem to think the lumen max 2 would be better over a 90 . I do like the elites though.

Assuming that the canopy is 15" high, the LME might be the optimal choice. The par is insane. The downside is the light spread. With the 15" height that will be nullified for the most part. Also the heat issues might be a bit less as they will be so far off the water. The advantage of the LM2 is that the light spread is more even overall. Because of this they can be placed closer to the water. Both will work great but I would lean towad the LME because you have the height and plan the T5 supplementation to make it work.
