I Disagree, I have owned the Deltec it was that good i sold it on Ebay, i thought the turbo-flotor hang-on was a better skimmer.
I then got a decent skimmer and it pulls out 10 times what the Deltec mce600 did.

Your deltec mce600 is the UK version. The american version is better because the pump has been modified with our voltage, therefore sucks in more air and rotates the needle wheel faster than the UK version. Our needle wheel design is also different than the UK version with shorter pins. The american version deltec will skim circles around the UK version.

you are the only one i have come across that has owned the 600 and another and would say something like that. guess no matter how good your product is , it wont work well for someone.

seriously though , if you do a search for this skimmer all you get is post after post on how happy people are with this skimmer and what a incredible upgrade it was to every type of hang on there is.

maybe you got a magic turbo floater ....

i think he had them running side by side and thought his results were the same so he sold the expensive one.

I was running the turbo-flotor and the deltec mce600 together, they turboflotor pulled more out of the tank.(Not a lot more) All i was getting in the mce600 in a week was around 1 inch of cr#p.
I sold them both and got a Deltec AP851, this works a lot better than the others, i get at least 10 times as much in the collection cup.
The tank is only around 60 gallons so the mce600 should have pulled a lot more out.

Also dont forget the deltecs are a lot cheaper over here, the AP851 cost me Ã"šÃ‚£380 ($665)
The price of the turboflotor and the mce600 are around the same price

Remora

Remora

Gotta say after about 8 months of trying to get this Remora + Maxijet 1200 to produce something other than 1/4" of tea a week I'm about ready to drop some money on the Deltec.

If I had room I'd use my euro-reef, the remora just will not skim for me and I've tried every suggestion there is.

Such an oddity that some skimmers will work great on one tank and simply not produce on another.

Ah well I'm leaving it unplugged for now, the live room & damsel will have to deal with just a fuge for filtration and some water changes.

It's like a different room without the noise too.

It's a shame no one compares the PM HOT 1+ to any of these skimmers. While I do not agree with certain assessments and claims made these past few pages about basic skimmer designs and cups flowing minutes after cleaning, I will state that the Hot 1+ is exquisitely built. It has several methods of adjustment and has never overflowed or underperformed on me in the 2 years I've had it with either the RIO 600/800 or the MJ-1200 pump I've tried. I can compare the quality of skimmate that this skimmer produces to equal that of my Euro RS5-3 and my H&S 200 2001x2. All three skimmer cups must be cleaned using either a toothbrush or paper towel as warm water alone will not remove the crud.

Having said this, I would still love to see this skimmer coupled with one of the latest impeller designs or at the very least a more powerful and efficient venturi running pump than the MJ-1200 for the under 100g market. Like maybe an Eheim 1250 or AquaBee 2000.

Just thought id give a quick update .

still produces the same quality skimate but every now and then the hum that the unit makes starts to get real loud. If i unplug it and plug it back in numerous times it normally solves the issue.

My Deltec MCE600 pulls out just as much crap if not more then my friends Euro-reef CS180 on his 120g reef. I do run my skimmer in my sump but that shouldnt make performance any better. I empty the skimmer cup full of nasty thick mud-like skimmate evey 3-4 days. I scrub the collection cup everytime it fills up. The key is to keep the collection cup clean so you dont get the mud build up blocking skimmate from going into the cup. This is all with just 120lbs of LR and 80lbs of LS, no coral and just added a few new fish to the tank recently.

Im thinking anyone in the US who has/had a Deltec MCE600 that didnt perform good, had a defected pump.

In sump makes a difference. You have an overflow doing surface skimming. With HOB, you dont.

I would argue that a hangon skimmer with preskimmer cup would be the optimal setup unless of course the overflow feeds an in-sump skimmer directly. This is why many opt to have 2 skimmers in the sump to reduce the bypass.

The MCE600 does not have a preskimmer which has been an issue for many owners.

I have yet to see a decent HOB skimmer that can compare with an in sump skimmer. The MCE is good, but it is sorely lacking a surface skimming option.

if ya turn the intake to the side it sucks the surface skim up but i found it hurt skimate production
