Have you ever been bitten by a clownfish?

...I have a brackish puffer who hasn't bitten me yet. She is very efficient at snail crushing so I don't doubt her ability. When she's done with a snail, tiny sprinkle size chunks of shell get spit out. ...

You keep that in brackish water or in pure saltwater?
I never had much luck with these guys in brackish water, but when I slowly raised the salinity to full saltwater it did not only well but also exploded in growth.

Mine is a Figure 8 Puffer, not a Green Spotted Puffer. The salinity is low at 1.006. If I did have a GSP, I'd keep it in a marine tank. ^.^

When I was younger I kept brackish tanks and those puffers and scats were pretty common, they are sold as brakish fish.

Yes, Tetraodon biocellatus is more freshwater. The one I had in saltwater was Tetraodon nigroviridis.
I love puffer fish but never had much luck with them in freshwater or brackish tanks. And unfortunately they are not really reef safe. :sad2:

Many fish that are sold as it are not true brackish fish but mostly saltwater fish that live as juveniles in the brackish zone. Some are the other way around and are actually FW fish for the most part. Only very few are true brackish fish.

In Germany lots baby Monodactylus argenteus are sold as brackish fish in pet stores but when they grow to a certain size they need to transition into full saltwater to become adults (and these guys get a foot long) or they will slowly perish. Adults are actually quite impressive in a swarm if you have a huge FOWLR tank. They are good indicator fish for water quality as if it isn't to their liking or they are otherwise unhappy their silver turns greyish black.

Scatophagus argus is another example for a fish sold as brackish, but they are only true brackish as juveniles and as adults more saltwater than brackish fish.

My Occelaris nip a bit from time to time.
But I once had a Maroon clown that was evil incarnate.
The first time he bit me i got so startled that I nearly ripped out the front glass of the aquarium yanking my hand out!

My clown attacks my arm whenever im scrubbing the glass with an algae pad.. she bites at my fingers..

Sometimes when i take off the hood of my tank for cleaning the clown will splash the surface of the water like if she was charging lol

Same here. Every time I do work in the aquarium, both of my ocellaris clowns try to eat me alive. I think they believe they are little piranhas. :)

I've had both a niger trigger and oscellaris that would bite me every time I put my hand in the tank and a little discipline did the trick, at least for the trigger.

Whenever they got close to me, I would give them a little tap on the head. (I did not harm any of these fish by doing this)

After a couple times the trigger realized he wasn't as interested in nipping me anymore. The clown on the other hand was relentless and kept coming back for more.

Ive actually caught my clown in my hand when it was trying to bite me. I let it go and it didnt phase it and continued its relentless attacks. lolz

I have a problem with my breeding pair of black oc clowns attacking and eating my Duncans polyps after I added a hoddoni bout 6 months back...they have evicted my powder blue and foxface from there half of my 125 and are very aggressive to me and anything I put in tank.....free to good home

I was just bitten from my normally very passive perculas, my magnificent anemone was starting to wonder tourds my powerhead and when I put my hand in the tank to move it the smaller clown started to relentlessly attack me. Even as I was pulling my arm out the clown jumped like air jaws on shark week and bit me! My wife and son thought it was hilarious lol

I breed clowns so getting bit while retrieving their laying pots is pretty common for me, though some are more aggressive than others. The worst bite I've ever gotten was actually from my oldest occy female at 13yrs old. I sometimes feed flake and I would put my figures just under the water surface so that the flake gets dispersed. I don't think she intended to bite me but did while going after the flake. what makes it funny is that she caught me off guard and I quickly pulled my hand back but she hadn't let go. I ended up pulling her out of the water and flinging her the length of the aquarium. She left a mark but I was just happy that she'd landed back in the tank.

I have a 15 year old maroon who will let me pet him but is otherwise a total *** to anything in the tank. New anemones get their tentacles bit off, dragged around the tank and generally harassed until death. The clown has never drawn blood but will nip when I clean.

Loves the large green mushrooms which he snuggles with all day.

Getting a bigger tank over the summer and hope to add a few other fish. We'll see if they can survive "the jungle."

Gave my older brother my platinum clowns and he gave me his ocellaris to sell, well not long afterwards they went to the LFS for a pack of nori and a bottle of prazipro. His female was possessed. My platinums were passive aggressive, they liked to charge me but never bite. I imagine they might have started biting.

My female black ice will nip at me when I'm in the tank putting in/moving frags but never has drew blood. It always scares me because she'll sneak up on me when I'm least expecting it.

I have 5 spawning pairs of clownfish. I find that Ocellaris Varities tend to attack more than Percula. My Picassos who are big won't touch me even if I steal their eggs. While my 4 pairs of different varieties of Ocellaris will bite me for sure. My snowflakes have actually leaped out of the tank and onto the floor twice when they missed my fleeing hand. Luckily they lived. I'm not saying perculas don't bite, but mine have never.

LMAO maybe someone should do a movie about "Nemo" after dark where he goes nutzo and kills everything he comes in contact with HAHA I'm picturing Nemo with a mohawk a mother tatoo an AR strapped across his back HAHA LMAO I'm dying laughing here.

My gold nuggets would pick at my hands and would do the same to the magnetic cleaner when I would swipe across the glass.
