Help me decide on last Tang for my tank..

I currently have a Duessemeri, Cheveron and a Blue Hippo. I want to add a Zebrasoma that will pick at some of the different algaes on the rocks.

Which of these would you pick?

Scopas - evolly has one of these in adult color and it is stunning, may be too simillar to the adult color of the Cheveron.

Yellow - very bright, very common, good grazer.

Purple - beautiful fish, stricking color, a little bigger attitude.

Desjardini Sail Fin - gets bigger than the above, less boistrous than its cousins.

In the past I have kept a Yellow, Purple and a Sail Fin. The yellow was a good grazer, but was too small to make a dent in a prior hair algae issue. The Purple was a beautiful fish, but I did not see it graze much and the Sail Fin got big really fast (doubled in size in first 2 months in tank).

Other fish in tank for color/temprament compatability:
Mystery Wrasse
Wantanabei Angel (female)
Solar Wrasse
Bioccelatus Wrasse (like a purple Christmas wrasse)
Flame and Longnosed Hawkfish

Thanks

How big is your tank???

I'd consider a Kole, personally. Peaceful and voracious algae eaters.

If I had to pick one of those I would go with the Scopas. Quite an agressive list though. Can I toss another one into the mix? I really like the Bristletooth Tomini Tang, and have been told by people who have them that they work the rocks quite well...HTH.

Thanks all, the tank is a 180 (should have put that in the original post :) ).

I already have a bristletooth in the Cheveron. Great fish, spends most of his cleaning on the acrylic and eats more of the slime type algaes. The Duessemeri (Acathrus sp.) picks mostly at the substrate and the Blue Hippo doesn't clean too much.

I wanted to add a Zebrasoma so it would atleast be a different family of tang, and have waited to add him last to alleviate some of the aggression that may show up. Right now the most aggressive fish in the tanks is the Blue Hippo.

Missed the Chevron. Well, I'm out. On that size tank methinks you arleady have too many tangs...

I love my blonde naso!

That one goes in with the triggers in the FOWLR - ever since my fiance met Gus out at Rod's she wants one (Gus is unavailable or he would have come home with us 2 weeks ago :) ).

I had my Tomini with a Kole with out issue
I also had 7 tangs in my 180
down to 4 now
yellow
tomini
red sea sail fin
hippo

Poirple or Kolee.

My purple is doing awesome, and so's my kole. The purple is very, very colorful under lighting, and so's the Kole. There are some interesting Kole variants outthere...

Koles have an interesting swim, almost like a bob. The purple is very territorial, but will chill out after a while...

I had 5 tangs in my 150. since the adult chevron died they have started to fight though. He was the biggest. I guess maybe I should get another large Tang to even out the pack again.

How does your Chevron do with the other tangs?

Have any pics?

:D

The Chevron is the smallest of the 3 and gets along well with the other fish.

I'll try to get pics soon.

I've got a nice large Chocolate or Mimic tang, great colors and a great grazer...he's for sale, very healthy...I've had him almost 2 years I think...

Was asking $70 but I'd take $60 for a good home.

Ladipyg - thank you for the offer on such a beautiful fish. I'm not sure though that the Duessemeri (also an Acanthurus) will take too kindly to him.

Evolley - How is your Scopas doing? Last I saw he was very sharp. Gotten any bigger?

I'd vote for purple....yeah they are aggro but its the last fish you are adding (right?). I have a small one in my prop system and he is stunning with personality to match (didnt let me put a blue angel in there though).

FWIW, I dont see my purple graze at all and yet any new live rock with algae on it is bare the next day (maybe he does it at night?). I cant imagine its the hermits/snails eating it that fast.

Hmmmm,

It's my understanding that the Chevron is a very peaceful fish and should not be housed with any other tangs....

The other tangs will pick on it...

Make sure any tang that you add is similar in size to the others so that it can hold it's ground and not be picked on as much.

Chris...my Scopas is roughly the same size and looking just as good as the last time you saw him. His color changes from time to time depending upon his mood. I find that to be kind of cool
