i tried posting this in another forum but since it was old i dont think it got much attention. please help.

hey guys..i think i may have hurt my anemone seriously, by accident. I was reading a post about clownfish hosting anemones and one of the pieces of advice i got from 2 or 3 members on here was to turn off all the lights and shine a flashlight on the anemone and the clownfish will gravitate toward the anemone. My anemone was the most beautiful anemone looked so healthy and then i shined my flashlight on him for a while.

not only did the clownfish not go there, but i checked on my tank this morning and the anemone looks all shrivled up. he looks a lot different then he did before i shined the light on him.

I have 2 questions. did the flashlight hurt my anemone? what can i do to help him? please help save my anemone, id apreciate it

You will need to post more about your tank and your anemone for us to help you - i.e. do you know what species, how long have your had it, etc.

However even without that info I can guarantee you that shining a flashlight on your anemone did not hurt it.

i have a green BTA and I've had it in my tank now about a week. It's a 37h gallon tank. have 2 true percula clownfish. a red sea protein skimmer, marineland canister filter. 6 bulb ati lighting. live rock and live sand. the temperature is at 78 degrees F, salinity is perfect. I just added a powerhead today, that was the only thing that it was missing, however i have had an airstone the whole time.

Mine shrivels up to varying degrees at night (the clowns get very annoyed). Once in a great while it will completely shrivel up into a small ball.

i also have a dendro, a damsel, a firefish, 5 small snails and 5 little tiney hermit crabs. hope i provided enough info. I have been feeding the fish twice a day and have the lights on for 14 hours and off for 10. i use some chemicals in the tank but i only put them in once so far because i have only had my coral and anemone for a week. the chemicals are calcium, phytoplankton, iodine and trace elements.

thanks for the info guys, im gonna hit the sack, got work early but please any response is helpful. I will be reading up on it when i get back from work tomorrow.

im glad to see that i didnt hurt the anemone with my flashlight...lol.

Be careful with a power head. They can kill anemones if they come loose from the rock or walk to where the power head is. They need to be covered.

Is the power head blowing on the anemone. It is pretty common for them to deflate.
