Help with carpet anemone

ok i justwent downstair and the mouth is like just a giant white ball...ugh the dkh was at 8 when i checked it...the sg is 1.025 temp at 78 stable with controller moderate flow i need to get a flippin alk test kit i have a calcium one....my rbta are fine which is weird...im hoping this is just from light shock and it recovers good.
 
Aaron i see the hammer next to the carpet this can be a problem. I have both and mine did the same thing and my hammer was stinging the carpet i think. I moved it away and it was fine. Before i moved it the mouth was puffy and white and looked like globbs of tissue coming off. Hope this helps and is what help me.
 
check your alk again if you havent today, maybe an alk shift? if not then id say just stress from lighting or the move. so give it a few days to settle
 
i did just have my hand in the tank and i touched the nem its super sticky now and attatched to the pvc so tghis looks to be good so far
 
having two different anemones in the same tank can cause allelopathy. I'm not sure if it is much of a problem with BTA and haddoni though.

i did notice today when i was looking very close up on the nem it was releasing a somewhat clear fluid from its mouth dont know if that could be part of it or....what...hopefully not but will look into this

there's a great anemone FAQ at the top of the clownfish / anemone forum.

remove that anemone from it's PVC dish and let it go where it wants! You will have to move corals in it's way.
Haddon's doesn't like intense lighting or heavy flow. IME Goniopora and these anemones do not get along well together. Goniopora is highly toxic and wages chemical warfare (allelopathy) while Haddon's wages physical warfare by shedding nematocysts.
 
Just my .02 cents but when I added Green with purple/blue bta, I made sure I didn't have any of my expensive sps or lps in the tank yet... Nems are like picky girlfriends and choose when and where they want to be happy... I added it during the day when I knew I'd e able to watch it as it walked around searching for the perfect whole in the perfect rock and tht way I would have been able to move anything that might have been in its way.. Quite entertaining to watch it inflate and deflate as it casually walked around.. Once it for its rock and anchored I had about 1-2 days of it shrinking, mouth wide open and the. Looking better... After the firt few days of adjusting it hasn't moved and I can move it's rock anywhere now and it stays looking fat colorful and happy.. You may just need to play the waiting game and let te nem itself pick where it will be happiest in the present conditions... Good luck
 
I've had e. quadricolor and s. haddoni together for years - I wouldn't assume that was the problem. Likely just shock from the move and/or parameter instabilities or differences from where it was in the store. Anemones are very simple creatures. Instead of having complicated regulation mechanisms they basically depend on you to put them in an exactly perfect environment.

Do you know what the parameters in the LFS's tank were? Did you match to those at all? Regardless of what the value for alkalinity is in your tank, how stable is it (i.e. what's your dosing regime like)?

s.haddoni can be a great centerpiece for a tank but they are EXTREMELY picky. And they love to eat fish. Assuming it survives the near future it might make sense to try to pair clowns with it - they'll scare off other fish and keep them from being eaten.

Oh, and stop touching it to see if it's sticky. All you're doing is stressing the crap out of it, and out of everything else in the tank (every time you touch it, you're sending a shower of nematocysts around the tank. It's like running through a playground throwing fire ants at all the kids). Plus you may develop a sensitivity to it over time, which can be extremely painful.
 
Gary, yours is up the rocks though, right? Aaron, my thought is that maybe the acclimation period was a little too fast. I'm guilty as well of rushing the process when I get something new. How long did you drip acclimate it?
 
well i tooked it out of the pvc and its just kinda laying there next to the rocks with its mouth just hanging out again.....
 
I would check with Todd on the anemone forum (has a jiffy peanut butter avatar) He is an expert and has great knowledge with carpets. He was great when I first started with my carpets.

My personal experience would be keep the haddoni in a seperate tank from RBTA/GBTA's. Dont mix gig's and haddoni's.

I have had alot of success with my haddoni,s and mini/maxies as well as flower anemones in the same tank.

I never did it because I was always told not to. Can it work, yes and I have seen some people that have had success. I know a guy who had a large gig and two large RBTA's in a 180 that worked. I never wanted to chance it with expensive carpets.
