Tommorow i will be getting one of these its coming off a shipment so i dont know overall health of the specimen. It will be getting a spot in my 120gal dt tank it is lit by 2 250watt 20k radiums with lumen bright reflectors. So i was thinking about stacking some rocks directly under once of the reflectors to place the anem on the rock. My question is should i have them in the line of flow of my vortech mp40ws or will this blast them to much? from what ive read they like alot of lot but what about flow this a sps tank for the most part.

High flow is okay just dont blast the foot of the H. Magnifica and it should do fine. I currently added one about a week ago and he has a fairly strong current but it alternates so he moves back and forth in the currents changing patterns. Also I have mine under 20k Radiums so good choice and best of luck. with the acclimation process. any other q's just ask.

do you think high amount of corals in tank system will affect the anem im running a few pounds of carbon and will be swaitching it weekly until i feel my anems are stable i also runa uv sterlizer on the tank. I the anem comes home in maybe 4 hours cant wait to see what it looks like

ive always had my mags with lots of sps and never had a problem. running carbon wont be entirely necessary in my experience...

Well i got my mag in today i think hes gonna die though does not look good at all i reaquascaped the tank for him im a little bummed about it but ill post some pics. O well for the price i got him for it was worth the chance.

On arrival, they usually look really bad, but may recover. Give him a little time. Provide him with the best condition you can, may be in a basket in a reasonably high flow area. In a basket so he won't get blow all over the tank. Leave a few pieces of rock in it with him so if he attach you can place the rock where you want him tomorrow.

Well heres are some of the pics he has been in the tank for about 45 mins now he did not look good coming out of bag today when he came in the shippement

i had a hard time getting good shots i left the lights out for first hour i only just turned them on before taking these pics. He has a slime coming off him and when i saw his mouth it was gaping. He keeps flipping himself though putting his foot facing up and there is no flow in the tank all watermovent is shut off i was hoping he would attach to a rock but if i turn flow on now hell just blow around the tank. I think it will prolly die but has anyone seen them bounce from looking like this. He seems to have responded some when i put the lights on not sure though the foot looks purple everything else is white. How long would you wait to through the anem out of the tank i dont want it crashing my coral system so im watching it real closely.

If the mag has attached, I'd turn the flow back on. These guys have a very predictable routine 90% of the time. Generally they perk up pretty quickly once in the tank. They look great for about 3-4 days, than start a series of rapid inflating and deflating, usually resulting in death within 30 days. On rare occasions they pull through, but it is rare.

I know several people here have reported luck with mags, but if you scan prior posts 90% of the people who report getting their new mag are not heard from again after 30 days. I wish I wasn't in that crowd, but I failed twice with mags after spending over $2k just to give them their own perfect species tank. IMO this one should stay in the ocean until it can be successfully aquacultured or propagated readily in captivity.

They are difficult to get healthy. Once they recover from shipping, if you provide them with light, clean water with good flow and feeding they will do well.
I don't mail order anemone anymore because they are much more likely not make it.
I luck out with mine. He was at the LFS for two months (according to the slip on the LFS's tank) before I got him.

twisty tentacles is a bad sign with these guys. usually that means the inner layer of tissue is detaching. definitely give it a few days though and see what happens

the anem didnt make i will not be trying one of these again to tough to take from the wild to watch die ill stick with a hardier BTA
