Hlle ?

I have a blue hippo tang that has lateral line erosion and only wants to eat mysis shrimp which isn't the best I know. I've been soaking it in selcon to try and help supplement and give plenty of nori on the clip every other day which is mostly eaten but it hasn't gotten any better. Any other ideas?

I'm not familiar with that carbon but there is no doubt dusty carbon that is run through too fast ie ground up can cause hlle. There are many studies on this. Most of us use Rox .8 carbon from brs either passively or in a very slow reactor. It makes a difference.

If your surgeon is eating nori and bitamoins I would not look at diet. You can try Larrys reef frenzy food with the nori in there. But my bet is on the carbon.

I do know the carbon comes in a bag and I've been cutting the bag and dumping it in one of my avast reactors. Not sure if that matters or not.

Even if you rinse the carbon for 10 mins before adding it will still release dust into the water column. If you want to use carbon get the stuff Hedgedrew is talking about... He has 10's of thousands of gallons of saltwater and a collection of fish that cost more than most peoples homes... He knows what he is talking about

+1

BRS Rox 0.8 is awesome. Low dust and high surface area for adsorption.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the info. I turned the reactor off this morning and will clean it out. Anything you recommend to help get rid of what has happened short of some large water changes?

You run a skimmer. Should come out ins filter socks and skimmer. Even if you use a reactor for Rox. 8 let it run through a filter sock before your tank. Lot of black stuff comes.

If you want to use carbon us the Rox. 8 from brs and risne it well with slow moving water and try using it in a very slow reactor with bag on end and tumble it slow. Very. Like just top layer moves a bit. Or use it passively in a sump somewhere where water passes near or through it. No tumble. In carbon bag. Do not grind this carbon hard. Its like size of pencil tip. But very stong and clean

Thanks for the plug dmorty.
