Holy Squamosa Batman.

Just picked this up at the LFS, my first Clam. Its a 4-5" Squamosa under 4X24Watt TekLight HO T5's. I plan on feeding DT's, is there anything else i should feet? do you just squirt it over him? Can anyone identify what is on the right side of his shell?

the thing on his shell is a tunicate. in reality, you do not need to feed, just good strong light, and suitable calcium and alk.

i turn off my skimmer and add it to the tank. after a few hours i turn my skimmer back on. it isn't necessary but it doesn't hurt ( just don't over dose, start slow ) and it will also help boost your pod population.

i assume the Tunicte is harmless?

Tunicates are harmless. They are a bi-valve also, just like the clam. I told Ryan that was a tunicate...hahahahahahahahhaa I WIN! LOL

I am not generally a big fan of squamosas...I typically like the croceas and derasas more...but that is a very nice squamosa that I'd certainly consider if it had been available to me. Nice clam.

My clam has moved slightly up against the glass, so when he is open his mantle pushes up against the glass, he seams happy, and can move, should i leave him be?

NICE CLAM!! Very nice color too. I don't have any yet, so I'm here learning first. Is there a link that tells me the difference between the squammie, croceas & derrasas?

i am new to clams also, Squamosa and Dersas are lower light clams, and generally easier to take care of compared to Croceas and Maximas which are higher light clams.

So the low lights are easier to care for. I'll keep that in mind.
