my return pump went out this morning and the only place that had a 2000 gph pump was home depot its a total pond brand just seeing if anyone has used one and if you have had any problems or should i order another pump and use this as a back up

i would be leery just based on metal parts possibly present. i was looking for a utility pump to deal with water changes and misc tank maintenance and avoided those for the same reason.

I would suspect it is not rated for salt water. I looked at their site and they're all koi ponds and fountains.
I would do this: go to PetSmart or other source and get several Penn-plax battery/regular bubbler pumps. These are useful in a blackout, run on regular batteries or on house current. This will keep tank and sump from going toxic. As an alternative ANY old air pump will do. Then get online and order a proper pump with a next-day air delivery: what you'll save in not buying the Total probably will pay for airship. Remember this is Labor Day weekend, so there will be no regular mail on Monday.

I don't know where you are, but look at the bottom of the FORUMS listings (use blue tabs in page banner) and see if there is a local reef club. SOmetimes members have spare gear they'll lend. Plus advice and help.

Usually pond pumps run pretty warm, and energy hogs, maybe a temp solution at best.
That's a lot of flow for a return unless it's a pretty large tank, might not need that much unless you are T'd off to other gear.

I assume you are using an external pump with that kind of flow.
I am using the Iwaki 100RLT and very please with it, though it is load if you don't have a dedicated sump room.

Do you have any idea what the head ratings are on the pond pump you are looking at?

its a 200 gal tank and its running my uv and reactor off a manifold and the flow at 6 foot is 1664gph

I ran a 180g reef, a 75g show tank, a chiller 30+ feet away from the tanks and a reactor all off an original version of the Jebao DC12000. I ran a closed loop with a 2nd one and it ran external. They are small and run very cool. The DCT versions run 10 speeds and a 2000gph unit cost a bit over $100. Just buy one and be done with it. Reef Breeders could have it shipped to you overnight!

I used that exact same pump as an emergency pump a while back. I used it for three days while I ordered a new one. It worked great but I would not use it permanently.
