Hose clamp options

So not knowing an alternative I opted to use stainless steel clamps to secure my flexible return line to the barb fitting on my return pump. I had read that they would rust, I didn't realize it would be so soon, its only been two weeks and the screw is already showing signs of rust. I've tried zip ties as an alternative but they've proven unsuccessful what is the general practice for securing barb fittings with flexible hose within the Sump/ in submerged saltwater conditions?

Titanium hose clamp. Or use PVC off pump until you are out of water then use your existing flex run.

Is a hose clamp really needed on your return pump barb? I generally don't find it necessary on in sump pumps as the hose stays connected to the pump pretty well by itself. I just use clamps on the other end. Though, the plastic ratcheting clamps others suggested work fairly well.

Yep.. Don't use anything...
The the friction should be sufficient enough..
Its not like its going to matter if its leaking some..

I had thought titanium but didn't realize anyone produced clamps of that material, do you have a source? I like the idea of PVC off the pump until out of water and then flex, I'm just not sure if I can get the right fitting for one of my pumps...

I actually have two pumps one would probably be ok without, it fits fairly well but my other pump tired to my UV would not/has not worked without or with zip ties even. It's barb is very odd, instead of a traditional breath that has ridges perpendicular to the house this one has vertical grooves parallel to the house, making it want to just slide right off. Based on the above comment I may try to just do PVC directly out then go to flex hose outside the sump. The only challenge will be finding a fitting that works with the internal threads on the pump where the barb connects.

Take either the fitting or the pump itself with you to a good plumbing supply store. Although HD/Lowes might have what you need, my guess will be that you will just waste time there.

You can also take a look online - my go-to's for plumbing are www.savko.com and www.usplastics.com

What I have always done for vinyl tubing is to use thick walled that you almost can't push over the fitting. Submerge the end of the tubing in boiling water until it is soft, push it over the fitting and then run it under cold water. As it shrinks back down it will grab on to the fitting and not let go. You will probably have to cut it off to change it out.

Not sure why zip ties have been unsatisfactory. If I must use a barb fitting, a good thickness zip tie pulled tight between the fitting shoulder and the lowest barb works just fine.

I used a zip tie and the hose just came right off that's even with using a pliers to tighten it. I had thought about using two but think the same would happen, really i think it's because of the barb, it sucks. It doesn't have the normal ribs thatbite into a hose, that's why I'm going too try the pvc out off the pump and once I'm out change too flex with a normal connector. I'll try to post a pic of the current fitting which i think is the culpritof my issues...

Ok so the pump came with three barb fittings and im using the 3/4 out, here's the 1/2 inch reducer which has a similar enough barb to depict the connector i think is poorly designed. The upside is that it's threaded in which sound be simple enough assuming it's standard threading....

Yeah - I would try to change the fitting. You could also try silicone tubing. It's a bit grippier and also softer, so it's easy to compress with a clamp/zip tie.

+1. Silicone tube has a much higher coefficient of friction and will 'stick' much better, plus as noted it is more compressible so you can get the zip tie tighter. Or just get a better barb fitting.

I also do not use anything on my return pump.. Mine is 1 1/2 pvc return it just slides up inside a coupling, This makes it much easier to remove to clean the pump.... it does drip a bit but its right back into the Sump..
