Hotumatua, Debelius, Resplendent

Of these lovely fish, I had the privilege of keeping a small group of C replendens many years ago (mid 80s). They were easy to care for, ate anything and lived happily in a 75g soft coral "Dutch Mini Reef" for several years. Most folks thought they were little bright blue damsels due to their size. :)

Jump forward many years and I was able to get a close cousin, one of the hybrid fisheri/resplendens that Frank at RCT was breeding. It lived happily in a 120 reef for several years. Copps ended up with the parents when Frank closed down.

I would love to have a little group of replendens again. They are one of my favorites!

Jocs are cool and readily obtainable. Just be prepared to explain why you are so excited about a bi-color angel. :D

Too cool Rob... the days when resplendens cost what flamebacks do today! :)

Anyway... here's the famous pair... I saw so many of the offspring in Japan!

Thats right

I know that Alicia still has her hybrid's from Frank and they are amazing everytime I get a chance to see them :)

Alicia is too cool! When Julain Sprung was putting together "Angelfishes of the World", he was looking for a photo... I didn't have any, so I gave Alicia a shout, and you could see her photo in the book... :)

I read somewhere that the hotumatua angelfish was being captive bred. Does anybody know anything about this?

This is based on flase information, that came about as a result of a few things... Frank did work with hotumatua, but never raised any young... they required water that was just too cool... the hotumatua that were available at the time all came from Easter Island through Hawaii, and some from the same guy Frank worked with in Hawaii... but those hotumatua were wild fish... keep in mind that hotumatua are the coolest water "shallow" angelfish species, and require water at a maximum of about 72-74... the lower the better... Frank offered me his remaining pair when he was taking a break, but I didn't have that cool of a system... I do now, and am anxiously awaiting to see if things pan out next year... we'll see guys and I'll keep you informed...

Maybe some Smithi butterflies too, then, huh?

Yes... and Chaetodon litus perhaps... :) speaking of Chaetodon smithi, the one on display in the world is at Waikiki... here's a photo of it from a couple of years ago right by Charles Delbeek's chin... the beautiful "Hemitaurichthys like" Chaetodon! :D

Some other shots... the CB debelius pair I received from Frank...

And now interrupta... first a wild male I had... this fish was father of all of the captive bred interrupta... what a stud!

And junior... one of the babies... first as a female...

... and the same fish later on in my display! Interrupta are not only the largest Centropyge... but also the most sexually dimchromatic!

why dont you see more multicolor angelshere on rc they are gorgeous and under stronger lighting get to look kind of like nahackys centropyge

Lots of people on RC have multicolors - search around for threads. There has been a ton introduced in the trade in the last year.

copps, any explanation for the difference in appearance between the wild caught interruptus and the CB interruptus? One certainly has more yellow and the other has a lot more iridescent blue dots.
