With ocellaris I always suspected it to be a nutrient deficiency during early development. But genetics may definitely play a role too.
Percula seem to be even more prone to misbars, though I always managed to keep it to a minimum.

I stopped 2003, but plan to pick it up again. On a much smaller scale though.
I've just got back into saltwater a year ago and it takes a while to get percula to grow up and start spawning. These dumb shits don't eat enough.
