put my yellow coris wrasse into my dt sunday evening. i have yet to see him. some have told me they can hide for several days, buried in the sand.

anybody have any experience with these guys as far as introducing them? i did use an acclimation box. when i went to release him, he jumped straight up but i am 99.99999% sure he landed in the water and not on the floor, in the overflow, sump, etc.

Mine hid for five days in the sand when I first got him! They do this. He will come out when he's ready. They are great fish! Enjoy.

While my story isn't about a yellow wrasse, I had a carpenter's flasher wrasse that I didn't see for over a week after putting it in. My LFS had them on sale for $10, and I decided that he's likely dead. Walked into my house and the first thing I see in my tank is a carpenter's wrasse swimming happily in my tank...so now I have 2!

Did you QT it at all, or did you add it directly to your DT? I ask as I have never had a sand sleeping Wrasse go hidden after QT, just during the first few days or week of QT.

oh yeah, he was qt'ed. did tank transfer then observation for a few weeks. while in qt, he woke up and went to bed like clockwork. at bedtime, he would bury himself in a tub of sand. i kept my qt on the same light schedule as my dt, including actinics, hoping it would help acclimate him to the dt.

still no sign of him.

I have one I haven't seen since the summer of 75. Any day now he will gert hungry and come looking for food.

The wrasses can definitely hide for long periods. I added an Orange back wrasse almost 2 weeks ago. Haven't seen swimming since it went into the tank.

Then last night while marvelling at a batch of percula eggs, there sticking out from a rock was just a 1/2" of the orange back wrasses snout.

Don't call off the hunt yet.

paul, you just crack me up!

I bet he is resting up for MA 14 :)

if that's the case, he's smarter than the average bear!!! <a href="http://s6.photobucket.com/user/Ninapearl/media/smilies/roflmao.gif.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y203/Ninapearl/smilies/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt=" photo roflmao.gif"/></a>

my ornate leopard wrasse, would go missing 1 week at a time. I would see him one day and then he would be in hiding... Mine was getting bossed by my melanarus so once I sold my melanarus he would be out everyday.

day 4, still haven't seen him. if he's in there, i don't think he's hiding because of fish aggression. none of my fish are aggressive, to my knowledge. he did great in qt and when i put him in the acclimation box, i left him in there from morning till just before lights out. everybody ignored him completely.

not giving up yet!!

Nina, go and have a Harvey Wallbanger. Coris Wrasses take longer than that to poop. They laugh at 4 days, it means nothing to them. He (or she) will emerge soon. If it is a she, she may take a little longer if you know what I mean.
I am predicting you will see him on Sunday.

I would probably give up after 10-14 days. Had a leopard wrasse go under and never come up. A sudden and unusual spike from 0 to 20 ppm in nitrates told me she was gone. Good luck though.

haven't tested my water but will do that saturday or sunday before i do my water change. pretty sure there's no ammonia because my clam is happy as a, well, clam. :D

eta: ami, i have a yellow fin flasher wrasse and a red velvet fairy wrasse. neither of them ever hid when i put them in my dt. the flasher is a late sleeper and had me concerned a couple of different times but i guess he's just lazy!

I'm in the same boat with some new wrasses. Added 5 flashers on Sunday, 2 are still in hiding. Hope they come out soon!

I had a leopard wrasse hit the sand and wrote it off as dead and a month later i got home and there she was swimmin around skinny as heck lol ive had it for about 4 years now one of my favorite fish no doubt!
