I don't believe your nitrate levels define you as a human being. Lol . All jokes aside, I've noticed over the years that some fish, dwarf angels in particular, do not handle high nitrate levels well. I have an SPS dominant tank and try to keep my water as clean as possible. So in my book 40ppm is very high but I'm sure there are some, if not many, people that view 40 ppm as acceptable for a saltwater tank.
