How long till my clowns host my anemone?

I added a rbta to my reef about 2 weeks ago and my pair of ocellaris don't seem to care about it at all. How long does it usually take before they will host it? Is there any way to speed up the process?

Patience! They may never go in as the E. Quadricolor is not the natural host for them.

Some people say if you put a picture by it on the glass of a BTA hosting a clown that it will learn or copy it. Not sure if it will work or not. Also another option is if you kinda push them in it by making them move towards it they will realize what it is and begin it live in it.

its up to them.try to corale them to it or put a half defrosted piece of mysis in its tentacles and dont feed the clowns till they start to get it from the piece you gave to the nem.

Do not try to corral them into the anemone -- that is a very risky move that could very well end up with dead/eaten clowns. Time is works the best.

Anywhere from a couple of minutes to never.

They may never host anything. My tomato clowns host all my coral.

I had a pair of Ocellaris in a 39 gallon tank with 2 RBTA and 1 GBTA for a year and they never got close to any of the btas. They preferred a power head or a large red mushroom for their host. I started a new 90 gallon and moved the anemones over to it then purchased a pair of Clarkii clowns for that tank and they were in the btas within a day. It's an awesome thing to witness the relationship between the fish and the anemones but I think you need to get the proper host for the fish you want to keep.

i have an anemone tank with 6 anemones and i also have 2 snowflake clowns in the same tank the clowns wont touch any of them and they been together for 6 or so months so only time will tell!

Amphiprion occelaris do not host Entacmaea quadricolor in the wild, they may never host your anemone. Cross your fingers, but understand it may never happen.

I totally agree. Saying the clowns host the anemone is like saying the house live on you. I am not sure why most people, reef and anemone keepers at that, always say the the clown host then anemone.:crazy1:

Guess you haven't seen an S. haddoni capture a fish -- fish that are significantly faster and more agile than any clown.

Anemones can/will kill/eat a clown if the clown is corralled into when they aren't ready.

My two RBTA's are hosting my Tomato clowns now, but it took about three months for them to figure it all out.
