Standard 125: currently zero tangs, with plans to add one eventually. Will be kole or truncated.

I've had bad luck with behavioral issues with them in the past in my current 125 and old 90 gallon.

How many other fish did you have in the 125 when you had the issue. Did you buy the tangs young. I just added 4 yellows yesterday and besides all the old guys changing them for a little everything was ok. I did turn the lights off that night. I am trying to understand why I can do it big others say they are a terror. Do you have a lot of rocks in your tank like mine

125 gallon: I acquired a threesome from a service account. Yellow, regal, powder brown. They had been together for a couple years (give or take) in a 90 gallons account.

I had them for about a year in my 125. The yellow killed the powder brown. Then it went after the regal but got its butt kicked. This sent the yellow into depression (well, that's what it seemed). So I rehomed the yellow, and did the same with the regal eventually.

That tank had the three tangs, a flame angel, and a couple small fishes. Lots of rock in one pile with 8 inches or so open on each end.

Old 90 gallon: I had a yellow tang that eventually after about a year killed a pearlscaled butterfly and dwarf angel. The yellow was traded to the local fish store.

Do you feed a lot. I feed nori twice a day and cubes 2 tines a day. Feed about 15 cubes a day

I've read on here that not enough food could cause aggression among tangs. I suppose it's possible that was a problem. I tried to keep nori on a clip 24/7 and also fed them meaty frozen stuff like Mysis and marine cuisine daily.

Tank is 48”x24”x24” 90gal with a young yellow tang roughly 3” who is best friends with my coral beauty. They swim and graze together. Nori is fed daily along with a mix of mysis and brine generally has either very small amount of pellets or flake mixed into the thawed shrimp. Thats fed twice a day only enough for everyone to fill up in 3 mins from a turkey baster. Also have a pair of clowns and 2 wrasses in there with them. My yellow will often swim and pal around with my exquisite wrasse. In a few weeks I’ll be housing my friends baby blue hippo (around 2 1/2” as long as there is minimal aggression between my yellow and his hippo) for a while til its big enough to move into his 700gal. He doesnt want it to be dumped in there with his bigger tangs yet.

Currently I have 6 tangs in my 550 DT.

6"- orange shoulder
6"- blonde naso
4"- purple
4"- Achilles
4"- whitetail bristletooth
3"- powder blue
Along with other small fish

Feed algae in a clip every other day, LRF/rods frozen food every night & auto feeder feeds twice a day.

In my 625g I have 3 yellows, 2 purples, powder blue, Achilles and a Unicorn. I feed 1.5-2 sheets of Nori a day along with frozen mysis, plankton, brine, spectrum algae max pellets, formula 2 flakes and all frozen food has spirulina powder added to it. I feed a lot, but the fish are all very fat and happy

180 with
Atlantic Blue
Kole
Purple

Only aggression is from the Atlantic Blue towards my Two Barred Rabbit Fish

180 with a purple and a powder brown. I feed pellets, flake and nori daily and then frozen once a week

150 gallon, not the short one the long one, 3 yellow tangs and a pallete surgeon (Paracanthurus hepatus). The pallete surgeon was the first in and the trio of yellows was way after. I got them from a hobbyist who grew them up together from when they were tiny, the only time any of them get ornery is near lights out when they are competing for the best sleeping spots. The pallete rules the roost though.

Standard 120DT with a single Tomini. Maybe 8 other smallish reef fish to keep it company including a African Flameback Angel who was there first. About a week of sorting out the pecking order. Now, several years later all are fine.
