How much do you dose?

Just curious, since I seem to use a lot of Ca and Alk suppliment. If you are using this 2 part recipe...

Alk part:
2 cups Calcium Chloride (Peladow or similar)
+ enough water to make 1 gallon

Ca part:
2-1/4 cups Baked Baking Soda
+ enough water to make 1 gallon

...please list how many mL you use daily and a description of your tank size, types of corals, and age of tank.

I'll start: 120 gallon display tank
60mL daily
several small coral frags, SPS, LPS
tank is 3 months old
Alk ~8-9dKh
Ca ~450ppm

Thanks! I'm curious to know how much is typical

same mix as you mainly sps 220 gallon well more like 300 about 30 mls per day cal stays around 430 or so

I dose 45ml/day of BRS 2 part in my 90 gallon and alk is 9.0 and calcium is 420. I'm glad you started this thread because I'm wondering if I'm dosing an unusually high amount. Today I happened to be in the sump when the dosing pump kicked if for the alk supplement and I noticed that it precipitated on contact with the water. I don't notice any accumulation so I'm guessing it usually does this and dissolves. Don't want to hijack the thread with that observation- it just made me realize I have no basis of referent and may be overdosing.

interesting I noticed that my brs doesnt precip at all its been a while since I checked my levels I should look maybe my levels are dropping and I need to dose alott more than i did with b ionic. I was testing every week when I first switched and everything stayed about the same

i have a 240 display with about 100 gal between the two sumps.for a total of close to 300 gal.its a mixed reef with sps,lps and softies.im dosing 50ml of alk,50ml of cal and 90ml of mag.
levels are 7 to 8 alk,390 to 425 cal and 1400 for the mag. i dose this daily except for when i forget which is about once a week

calcium reactor and kalkwasser used over here

calcium reactor and kalkwasser used over here

liquid supplements only used occasionally to tweak levels

120 gallon display tank, 50 gallon LPS Frag and 20 gallon SPS frag
220mL daily (I just found a means by which air can get pulled into the dosing system so I'll be checking to see if this is accurate)
heavy on SPS
tank is 1.5 years old
Alk ~9.5dKh
Ca ~500ppm

Thanks guys - interesting. I should add that I'm not doing top-off with kalkwater. Jeff, are you? Maybe that would explain it...

I can get better measurements later, but I dose roughly 25ml of BRS alk/ca/mg 3 times per week. It's basically 1 pump each of the BRS mix-your-own 3-part.

30gallon display, ~45g total volume
mixed reef, mostly LPS - a few small frags, several small colonies, a couple large colonies
About 2.5 years old

I use just kalk ,Coralife salt which is high in calcium and magnesium for water changes and a weekly tweak with a tablespoon of baked baking soda( aka soda ash).

[/B]I noticed that it precipitated on contact with the water[/B]

It's common to see a bit of white cloud as some small amount of transient magnesium hydroxide may form in a localized high ph area created as carbonate is dosed . It redissolves at normal aquarium ph.
If you see a buildup on surfaces in the area of dosing ,then it's likely calcium carbonate precipitant which will not easily redissolve. Dosing to a high flow area and dosing the carbonate /bicarbonate and calcium chloride at different times can minimize any precipitation. issues.

I dose 45ml of each of BRS 2 part 7 days a week. I also drip lime water 24/7 at a rate of 2-3 drops per minute. Last I checked my calcium was 450 and my alk was about 8-9 dkh.

I have a 120 gallon mainly sps small colineys 20 of them i dose brs 2 part 150 ml a day with bubble magus t 101 dosing pump. my mag is still too high to dose 1500 from water changes.keep cal around 440 and alk 11.

im around 200ml of calc and alk a day on the two part. I have a heavy SPS tank thats 100 gallons but about 160 gallons of total water volume.

thinking about drippin kalk soon though

I'm only around 60ml/day with BRS 2 part. MUCH cheaper than B-Ionic, but I think that is one heck of a product. As my demand goes up over time, a mall dripping system is currently in place but not activated. Beyond that, I have calcium reactor which may or may not go back on line.

Testing weekly at this point. Ca 460s, alk 10.5, mg 1350, pH 8.00-8.10.
