How rare is this?

amazing pictures, made me quite jelly lol (I am in NSW, and only cold water reefs around here)

Might have to google for any update on the collecting laws in the territory (have a mate that lives in Darwin that goes out fishing a lot, if still legal might have to get to grab a few small coral frags and send them my way)

Such a small rock pool in your little corner of the country, and I am amazed at what I saw

I source all my stuff from an LFS that gets their stuff from a licenced collector up in Cairns. And the comments about how that reef survives? I have a 96L nano tank that I found I had more problems with the more I played with it.... used to be religious with water changes, emergency changes at 2am because the fish werent looking well and the nitrates had spiked, panicking over small things. I am a lot more slack with it now (water changes every 3 to 4 weeks) and I have found that the tank is now thriving with minimal issues. As my daughter likes to sing.... just let it go lol

Went fishing a while back and saw this little guy chasing bait fish right next to me in the water.

Lo and behold he actually caught one.

Man. If I live in Darwin it seem like I would never set foot to the water

Lewy - You're a lucky guy mate. I'm sat here in miserable London England, looking out of the window at the rain and the rat race going by, and I can honestly say your expeditions and this thread has brightened up my afternoon. What a great way to spend your spare time - green with envy!

The nearest I get to that kind of wildlife is my LFS, where I pay a fortune for corals you have in your back yard in abundance!

Thanks for sharing and good luck for 2016!!!

I grew up (and live) not even a ten minute drive from one of the spots that Lewy frequents and never appreciated the quality of the reefs here in Darwin until a mate put me onto this thread a few days ago. As a response to this, we are planning to head out with our big camera gear and explore some of the rock pools on the 29th (low tide). I'm hoping to try and get some good video (and stills) of wild Blue Ringed Octopus and Black and White Ocellaris if I'm lucky. I know my Dad used to go out and collect both species quite often for his home collection a long time ago. I'm not quite sure how ethical/legal that sort of thing is these days haha.

If we are successful I'll be sure to post videos and pictures if you guys want.

PS. Lewy is a legend!

Anthony - judging by the response Lewy has had, I would anticipate any pics / vids would draw plenty of attention! You boys are sooooo lucky!

Anthony I will probably see you and your mate out there on the 29th! Obviously I also live (and grew up) near by. I have been out there a few times to colect a few coral frags myself and whether I take anything or not I really enjoy going out to just look around.

I have yet to see a black and white ocellaris or any blue rings (thankfully on that last one, as cool as they are) but when I went out on the 1/10/15 I saw some bubble tip anemones and tomato clowns for the first time, and also saw a few epaulette sharks. Once we noticed the first one hiding under a massive Lobo we saw 2 more within 5 minutes!

Look forward to seeing you out there.

Cheers,

Macca

I don't know about not seeing the blue ring, think I'd really rather see it than not LOL You know so I can avoid it :hmm3:

This is true. Same with the crocs, stone fish, jellyfish, stingrays and sharks. If any of them are going to decide to appear on my collection trips I would much rather see them first.

Excellent thread!! Exciting to read, sad when I read you dealt with the silicon worms (and personal issues) cautiously excited to read about your new setup then read about the power outage.

Thank you for taking me on a tour to the tidepools of Australia. fascinating stuff!

I'm going to echo everyone's comments and thank you for sharing this.

I stumbled upon this thread and just spent the entire morning reading through it. Really great!
