How to Proceed Setting up a 125?

Micki,
I'm sitting here so overwhelmed. Not sure what to do next.
I have an empty 50 gallon acrylic tank I can set up.
Should I put display water along with new salt water in it?
Or start with all new water? (Remember, I used the Kick Ich in the display water) I have Metronidazole tablets ready along with some gel-tek and focus.
If they look no better tomorrow morning,I will pull all the fish out and put them into the 50 gallon.
I take it that there should be no live rock or sand?
I'll follow this:

*Lower the salinity to 12-14‰ (specific gravity: 1.009 @ 27°C) over a 72 hour period
*Closely monitor the pH and specific gravity
*Do regular water changes with low salinity water
*Keep the salinity at 12-14‰ (specific gravity: 1.009 @ 27°C) for 4-6 weeks, or at least 4 weeks after the last disappearance of the "Ich".
*Raise the salinity to normal over a 3-7 day period.
*Leave an untreated display tank fishless for at least 30 days.

. Am I missing anything?
I just know the stress of moving them is going to kill them now that they are so weakend.
Darn

Another thought. Do you only have one shrimp in there? If so, I would consider adding another 1-2 cleaner shrimp. I think thats what's saving my reef tank from disaster.
Actually, I have 2 scarlet skunks, along with some snails and hermits in my shopping basket at Live Aquaria but didn't want to put the order through with treating the tank. I will put it through tomorrow if the fish show a little improvement, otherwise, I'll be putting the fish in hospital tank and get the order in a few weeks time.

arbee, I know the feeling all too well! It's a tough decision. I would set the 50 gallon up and move them. Do you have anything for the filtration? Bio balls etc? You will have to have that or the tank will cycle. You don't want that for sure.

No bioballs. I do have a HOT Magnum with the sponge filter sleeve that has been running on the 20 gallon I kept going. I also have some poly pads I took out of the horse tank. Would this help?

Well, this has been the most awful day I can remember since keeping saltwater.
My PBT and my Royal Gramma died today. I have the 50 set up and am going to use Cupramine to fight this ich.
In addition to the yellow, a couple chromis along with the false perc are infected.
I never though I would cry over losing a fish, but I did twice today.
This really sucks and I am so discouraged.
But I will keep plugging away and hope I can save the rest of the fish. The 125 will only have softies, shrimps, a brittle star, urchin and snails for the next 2 months. No more of having to deal with this crap again.
I am still amazed that after keeping the PBT and the YT in QT for so long that I still ended up with this mess.

Thanks Micki. I appreciate the help and will follow your friends advise.
It's funny (not in a 'funny, ha-ha' way) but when you had your awful problem, I symathized with you on how we beat ourselves up because we think we didn't take action soon enough. Family or work issues get in the way.
Thats how I think I got into this mess....not taking drastic measures soon enough and hoping the parasite would run it's course and that with feeding garlic, selcon and vita chem that they would survive. I thought putting off getting them in a HT with all the family stuff going on would work.
Not so.
Next time when it happens (I won't fool myself into thinking it won't), I use the nuclear option...I will be prepared and go full bore at it.
It was really awful seeing how these fish suffer with this.
My nerves are shot this week. My three dogs (2 yorkies and a pom) were eating that food that was recalled. I had three cans left and it had the recalled UPC numbers on them. So now between sick fish, I am watching my dogs like a hawk.
Are grandchildren easier? LOL

Wow, sorry to hear about your dogs on top of everything else! Hopefully they will be ok.

Grandkids are GREAT!!! They make any bad day better just with a little smile and hug! Believe me when I say there is NOTHING in the world like them! :)

At least I have that to look forward to. Nothing on the horizon in that dept, (hurry up kids!) so until then, I'll keep nurturing fish, dogs, seahorses, a gecko, a cat and my corals...oh, and a husband, can't forget him! :)

Rita, sorry to hear about the PBT and the royal gamma. The other day I found my longnosed hawk behind my tank on the floor. I have no idea what caused him to do this. I had him for a year and then this. Things will get better. It may not seem like it but they will.

Terry,
I'm sorry to hear about your hawk fish. That is so strange. Hope all is well with everything else in your tank. Did the ywg settle?

I have all my fish in the hospital tank and they are now going through cupramine treatment. So far all that I have left are doing well. It's going to be a long 6 weeks though :(

My YWG is still acting odd. No one has had any ideas on what I should try. I think I will give him a few more days. If he does not get any better I am going to move him to my 150g tank. Good to hear all the fish in qt are doing good. 6 weeks is a long time, but its worth it.

6 weeks it def a long time! maybe wayy to long, long enough to make u wanna take them out and throw them into the main tank but we all know better than that :)

samson78945--Oh my gosh, yes we DO know better LOL.
I don't want to ever go through what I did last weekend to get these fish out for QT. They stay for the full 6 weeks.
Besides, I have to let the DT set fallow from the ich.
It is a pain cleaning out the hospital tank each feeding, topping off, and testing water quality and the copper all the time, but it will be worth it,
I did lose 2 chromis while fw dipping, my powder blue tang and the royal gramma from the ich and by accident my scarlet cleaner shrimp. I can't even say what happened, it makes me sick thinking about losing that shrimp.
So in the Hospital tank there is the yellow tang, the YWG (who is not happy at all with his pal the shrimp in the DT and no sand to hide in), 7 chromis, false perc and lawnmower blenny.

Terry, what exactly is it that he is doing? Maybe he does need to go to the bigger system--more places to hide. Could there be another fish aggravating him? Is there another sand fish or crab or something that may have taken over his hiding spot?
I say he needs a pistol shrimp :)

The YWG has disappeared. I took every rock out and still nothing. So he is gone. Maybe the nassarius snail took him under the sand to eat. I dont know. I checked all the paremeters and they are perfect. Time to start with something new.
Rita, so how is everything going with the tank? I have not heard from you in awhile.

Hi Terry,
I'm sorry to hear about your goby. Don't count him out yet. There has been times I've not found my goby for months on end....and then he reappears. I hope that is the case for yours.
The fish (yellow tang, 7 blue green chromis, lawnmower blenny, ywgoby and false perc) are all still in the 50 gallon hospital tank. Treating with cupramine and doing water changes. They are all doing great.
I have to rearrange my 125, it's a complete mess with getting the fish out. Next week I will be taking down the copper levels to start getting the fish ready to transfer into the 125 around May 1st. I think about getting another royal gramma and maybe another tiny false perc for my female--but then I get nervous knowing I have to go through all this qt again. And wonder if it will work.
Still don't have my Aquatinics light yet. It's taking forever :(
