How to Proceed Setting up a 125?

I spent 8 hours rearranging my rock the other day. I love the new look. I will post a few pics. I am going to borrow my mothers camera. It takes a lot better pics than mine. I will post them on my fuge thread when I get them.
Good luck with everything. Glad to hear things are getting better. I would call about the light, its been awhile. I just bought 3 400w MH bulbs from reefgeek.com they were great and my items were delivered shortly after my order was placed. Just thought I would let you know. Talk to you soon, Terry

goodness.... just as I was getting started the posts stop....

arbee: I hope all is well and that your lack of updates revolves around RW good news. :)

Hi Token,
All is going well. I have been intending to restart my thread but have been sidelined with so many things.
My 11 year old nephew died of leukemia the end of May so I have been spending lots of time with my sister and my family. He was one of the major reasons I upgraded my tank last winter. He was finally able to see it on Mothers Day. He really loved seeing it in person (I would send him videos to his computer). He died the following Thurs. So we have been a real wreck here.

As far as an update on my tank, all my livestock made it through qt with copper and are all back in the 125. I got the Constellation light fixture over the tank and the corals, especially the zoos just love it. I did have trouble with my small open brain coral. It was bleached out along with my frogspawn, so I have been target feeding them to get them back to normal.

I've also just upgraded my erectus seahorse tank this last two weeks. I'll be posting pictures tomorrow of the 125 and of the horse tank.
Thanks for prodding me into updating the thread~
Rita

I am saddened by your loss and heartened that the effort you put towards your tank was repaid by your nephew seeing it.

Best wishes as you and yours move ever onward...!

Here is the tank --taken last week.
I am getting a couple new corals this coming week..a Yellow Figi Leather and a Toadstool Leather.
I tried to put a couple acro frags in last week and they bleached from the bottom up. I fragged them and one seems to be doing ok. My system must not be stable enough yet. So I will be doing more intense testing, changing my salt mix (from IO to Reef Crystals) and dosing 2 part to get my calcium and alk in line. I thought they were but my test kits may have been off. So I ordered $150 worth of new Salifert kits. Oy!!! I will hopefully try again in the fall.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Im happy to see its up and running with fish again and I love the aquascape. Just wondering why you are changing from IO to reefcrystals. I have had IO for 2 years and I have a bunch of fluorishing SPS.

Token, thank you for the good wishes. I was so glad he was able to see it--and now when I work on it, add something new or just marvel at how beautiful each coral and fish is, I think of him.

Salty, Thanks for the compliments on the aquascaping. It is totally different then when I first set up.

I was researching about acro bleaching and other issues with sps corals and concluded that RC has some extra minerals that the corals would benefit from. I haven't changed over yet, but do have a bucket coming from FostersSmith. I will continue to use the Instant Ocean for the horse tank.

The tank is looking good Rita!!! I've been thinking about you and your family.
Thanks Micki! I have been thinking about your family and your son. If there is any updates on him, you let me know, ok?
Rita

Rita, the last update was we are taking him to Ohio State University on July 26. So far he has stayed healthy!!! :)

I'll be interested to see what you think of the reef crystals. I've always used IO but have heard good tings about RC.

Great aquascaping!!! I am in the process of deciding what dimensions I want in a large size tank. Do you ever regret having 18" from to back verses 24"?

Hi Little Bitty, thank you. Well, I got the 125 for only $100 so while I weighed that against an $800 reef ready 180, I decided to put the extra money I saved into the skimmer and lights. So it is just a matter of what you can live with with the budget you have and what you want in equipment. Sure I would have liked having 6 more inches of depth, but I don't dwell on it. I was able to aquascape with no problem. Keep me updated on which you decide on and if you get a thread going, let me know, OK?

Rita is that HA in a place that you could pull that rock and clean it off? If so I would suggest you try that.

Micki, It is on the pillar which is glued to acrylic rods. I would have to lift the whole thing out (and it weighs like 30-40 #'s)
I may just take a brush to it and suck out as I clean it off.

Yesterday my order from Marine Depot Live came. I ordered a dozen nass snails for the seahorse tank. When I was acclimating them, I noticed something wierd--no snails but about 3 or 4 tiny hermits. They must have had a feast on their trip from CA to OH because not one snail survived. I called MD and they issued credit--but they need to check their snail tank :)
The two toadstool leathers came and here are a couple pics:

Yellow Fiji is looking a little rough, but I'm sure it will perk up in the next few days.
I got a little pistol shrimp for my goby (I think my other one died while the tank was fallow--haven't seen him in nearly 5 months).
I used a 1 inch tube, poured him down into where my yellow watchman goby hangs out.
Was so funny, the goby came out, the pistol snapped at him and took off for another rock. The goby just looked so dejected (more than usual).
The goby went over to the rock where the pistol dove under and chased off all the inquisitive fish. Hopefully the shrimp will go to the goby or the goby to the shrimp once he is settled in.

Both of the Leathers are really good looking; I really like the color. And the YWG story made me chuckle... (they do look a bit forlorn at all times, now that you mention it...)
