how to understand a possible pair...

hello..
i desire to pair up maroon clown for sometimes now...

recently i went to LFS and saw a pair of maroon clowns in a 4' tank...they were moving independently and usually avoiding each other...but tolerating..
is such behavior indicate that a possible future pairup?

secondly is it good to add 3-4 maroon clowns at the same time for pair up purpose...will it increase chance(unless they kill each others)..?

I don't know for sure but it doesn't sound like a great matchup.
